Changes to Uncapped TPE Opportunities

Could you imagine telling a member in like S5, take HoF Defenseman Petr Shirokov for example (325 TPE), that 65 seasons later players with 1,000+ TPE wouldn't even be reaching 100 points in a season?

 

(This isn't a dig at anybody or the current state of the league, I just think it's pretty cool to see how different the league has become.)

Making an engine change isn’t something that can happen at the push of a button. We’re looking at it but everything runs smoothly because of the engine we have. Take that away and everyone on the portal breaks and we go back to slow manual labour for everything; and that’s the best case scenario. It’s not a quick fix. The engine also isn’t nearly as bad as some people imply but I digress.

 

It May seem like a couple TPE over a career but it’s not. For example, the donation you mentioned. That one level is usually used for another doubles week since that’s the biggest TPE reward. That’s 6 TPE a season which seems low enough except that it can realistically be bought 10 times in a career. That one level is now worth 60 TPE purely from having more disposable income than someone else. That’s not a matter of earning, that’s a matter of buying.

 

A lot of these also weren’t really ways of “earning” TPE. Awards and ASG were just handed out to more or less the top players already without them doing anything, lottery was pure luck, graduation bonus was going to everyone anyway so no earning there, theme week covers everyone but technically could be an earning thing so yeah, 2 TPE per season lost there. Recruiting is the same amount as before, just spread out. Trivia is about the only one that’s removing any effort based uncapped and we simply deemed it an unnecessary amount of TPE to be handing out.

 

I’m not saying you have to like every decision we make but yes, this was necessary to help reduce the amount of inflation going on in the league right now.

I think if we want to fight TPE inflation for high earners, we should increase regression, not punish recently promoted players.

“High earners” start somewhere. The intention is to lower them from the start rather than have that gap he so big. By reducing uncapped stuff rookies should theoretically have a lesser gap to deal with even with a lower bonus themselves.

 

Basically we’re reducing how high someone needs to be to be considered “VHL ready” in the first place.

And why is inflation a horrible thing when it is really just a small percent that are actual TPE whores? Seems like the same people that pushed this shit through are the ones that pull their players up on Discord to showcase their awesome players. 

 

And yes, the sim engine is shit. It takes a few minutes on Simon T's website to see how little of the settings actually work here. I have heard for 3 seasons that somebody was testing the a newer version, but that never goes anywhere. 

 

I guess losing a player isn't a big deal and protecting the poor is noble. Have a great rest of your day.

As a prefix I’m totally okay getting rid of the ASG TPE, lottery, and whatever else but I really don’t see the point in lowering grad bonus, reducing donations, etc. 

 

Combating “TPE Inflation” is near useless now with the “parity” and size of the league, nothing is going to change if the player builds remain the same. You guys seriously think 100-150 less TPE per player by S80 maybe will be any different if the league stays the same size or grows? 

 

No. 

 

You’ll have 100-150 less TPA per player but the end result is the same. 

 

If you want TPE to really matter, it’s time for a new sim engine with far more attributes to put points into.

 

 Look into getting FHM6/7, contact the developers and use some of the bank VHL has to implement some innovation in an otherwise stagnant sim engine.

Keep in mind that lowering the rest and then keeping donations would basically be saying “you are losing all these TPE opportunities but don’t worry, you can still buy it” which is a bit too “pay to win” for my liking.

...In all honesty though this kinda makes sense.  TPE inflation has gotten crazy.

Overall, though, this is good. Things were getting way out of hand and this is probably the best way to do it that doesn't involve changing the update scale (which I'm sure Victor likes to hear, unless you're planning on changing it anyway). I'm very surprised responses haven't been more negative so far, but that's also a good thing.

 

Also, does "next season" mean 71 or 72?

This was actually my question too. Especially with a lot of people already capping because of jobs and the like, seems like it may kill something that has helped people learn about the history of the league and engage in a different way.

 

All in all I think lowering the inflation is a good idea though.

The update scale should still get beefed imo. Get some people to start choosing one 99 at most, make some specialist players.

The donation is by definition one of the pay to play things, that makes it harder for newer members. Also they aren't getting rid of it, just removing the $20 tier and limiting it to $15. I fail to see how protecting people who don't donate every season is a bad thing.

I'm a capitalist. I don't understand that my ability to buy perks for real money should be limited to others that don't feel like they want to invest in their players. Protecting people that don't donate? Really?  I don't think this is worth my time. This sim is clearly going in the wrong direction. Take take take and improve what? Nothing. This sim is just getting worse. Fix the cap issue or something that is fundamentally flawed.

The VHL has always been and will always be free. Donations are rewarded but rewarding them too far means that people who can afford to pay get a significant advantage which we are not in favour of doing.

Yes, that 6 extra tpe is killer. Can't afford or not willing to buy? Still a bad change no matter how you spin it.
