Scouting Report

Artem Tretiak is a goalie that currently plays for the Houston Bulls in the Victory Hockey League Minor system. Tretiak was drafted 50th overall in the Season 74 VHLM draft by the Yukon Rush. This was after playing out the previous season for the Saskatoon Wild, who picked him up on waivers after joining the VHLM.

Tretiak saw no ice time for the Wild in his first season, focusing mostly on recovery and in getting in playing shape once again. The Wild were helpful in that respect, but then he was drafted and headed off to Yukon.

For the Rush, Tretiak played in one game off the bench, so we didn't get much of a view of him in net. So far, after moving to the Houston Bulls, he has played in three more games. So, with that said, the ice time isn't as useful to gauging the talent level of Tretiak as compared to the VHLM. However, in those four games, Tretiak picked up a win in one, two losses and a no decision in another. He has a 0.918% save percentage, a 2.15 goals against average and has saved 90 of 98 shots against him. In short, he's played decently.

Pros:

Tretiak has years of experience on the ice. He's 35 years old and has spent his career playing in Russia, so his experience should help him and help his teammates in a number of ways. He's also a rather balanced goalie, having skills in a number of areas. His well-rounded nature should help him regardless of the situation, as he features decent size and agility in net, handles rebounds well and is good with both his hand and the stick. His reaction time is also not too bad given his age. Tretiak has also shown to be a consistent worker, constantly trying to better himself and get back to his all-world talent levels that he showcased for over a decade in Russia. That drive could help propel him to that level once more.

Cons:

Tretiak is old, and age shows no mercy. He may just not be able to get back to his previous abilities as his body continues to get less reliable and dependable. This could pose major problems. He's also not very great at fielding penalty shots, given that he hasn't faced that many in his career. He's not the best skater, preferring instead to stay in-net and not chase the puck near the net. Due to only playing for mostly one team, and in Russia, he's not considered the best leader in the locker room in the VHLM.

Tretiak could be a good piece as he continues to develop, or his body may just not let him get back to that level.
