World Juniors: Leafs happy to see Morgan Rielly selected for Team Canada camp | The Star

Tom Eagles has been putting a mark in the VHLM and in Philadelphia as this upcoming draftee has been lighting it up on the scoreboard. Eagles has been in the top 10 in scoring for pretty much the whole season and today we will be looking at his Strengths and Weaknesses as he prepares for next seasons draft. Rumours are that he will be a top 5 pick which will surpass where his father, Greg Eagles, was drafted.

Strengths:

Defense:
Being a Defenseman, this is one of Tom's greatest strengths. He is very adept at cutting of the lane to intercept passes, poke checking to loosen the puck and can see the ice very clearly to break up any odd man rushes. When he is on the ice it is very hard for the opposing team to score and this is always shown by his positive +/- numbers. He is also usually trusted to play against the top players on the opposing team.

Shooting:
Tom Eagles has a cannon of a shot. He is one of the hardest defense shooters in the league currently and always puts the fear into the opposing goalies when he winds up. While his shooting has not equaled to many goals as of right now, he is still working on his accuracy. But when the puck does aim towards the net, you know that most of the time it will be going in due to the sheer power of the shot. If it doesn't go in then you can bet its going to be tipped.

Puck Handling:
Another Strength for Tom Eagles is his puck handling abilities. He is able to carry the play out of his zone and is able to weave in and out among the opposing players. The puck looks like it is attached to his sticky on a string which makes it very hard for the opposing players to take the puck off him. This really helps this young defender in his two-way play as this is effective in both ends of the ice

Weaknesses:

Checking:

One weakness of Tom Eagles is his checking. While he does have a big frame being 6'6 and weighing 230 lbs. Tom does not do very much checking. If he can use his body more this will help his already spectacular defensive game. Tom vows that he will work on this aspect of his game before the draft and we do hope he keeps his promise. If he can become a little more physical, this will help him stand out a bit more in the VHL and make him one of the better defenders in the league

Passing:

Even though Tom has 45 assists so far this season, these were mostly due to tipped shots. In order for Tom to become an elite defender he has to become better at passing the puck and setting up his team mates. When he reaches the VHL he cannot rely on just tipped shots.

All in all we are excited about this upcoming elite prospect and look forward to watching as he grows into a VHL player. Who knows, he may be the next VHL HOF defenseman!
