A Christmas Reality Poem

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Mom and dad were finished working with a screen and a mouse,
The stockings were hung (Socially distanced, of course)!
In hopes that St Nicholas had no Covid Remorse.

The children were restless, so tired of home school,
Getting really fed up with the new Pandemic Rule.
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my mask
Were both worn out by the online shopping task.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I tried to get up, but saw I’ve gotten fatter!
This lock-down has messed with our gym routine,
To hell with it all, is there more Christmas Poutine?

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
Revealed very few footprints, ‘cause “Out” no one could go.
When what to my wondering eyes did appear?
But a miniature sleigh, and 4 socially distanced reindeer!

With a little old driver sporting a mask,
I knew in a moment, I need to get off the flask!
More rapid than eagles, I thought it insane,
or maybe the lock-down's affecting my brain?

Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Donner, now Cupid,
Socially distanced they were, these reindeer aren’t stupid!
To the top of the porch, to the end of 2020,
Let’s all raise a toast, and lets’ do it plenty!

Stay safe all my friends, the vaccine’s on its way,
But we need to be smart until that great day
Our turn has arrived, we can all get the “shot”,
(In the arm to be sure, because Tequila it’s NOT!!)

As I came to my senses, my vision was straight,
I knew in my heart we all really can’t wait
Till that date in the future, hope it’s coming soon!
Friends and family in person, (though may not be ‘til June!)

Well that’s me done, I need to get on a Zoom call
But before I leave here, I really can’t stall,
As we all go back inside, all back out of sight,
I say Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!

Stay safe VHL friends!
