Awarded to the most improved player in the VHL, we've got several players who kicked their careers into another gear in Season 75. Ziarie Anigbogu @ngine4, a defenseman with the Toronto Legion, went from an 11 point rookie season to 81 points, including 68 assists, good for third in the VHL. Kevin King @IamMOOSE of the Vancouver Wolves nearly tripled his point output, going from 32 to 94 points, good for 7th in the VHL. Warsaw Predators netminder Ajay Krishna @Hooperorama went from a .908 save percentage to a stellar .925, winning 14 more games than in Season 74, also dropping his GAA to 2.93. Ajay Krishna and Stone Wolski!!

For the first time since Joey Clarence and Kevyn Hesje co-won the inaugural Dustin Funk Trophy in Season 21, we have co-winners in Ajay Krishna and Stone Wolski! Both goalies showed tremendous improvement that resulted in both of their teams having successful seasons, and voters simply couldn't decide between the two. Ziarie Anigbogu came one vote shy of making this a three-way tie, as his impressive sophomore campaign did not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to Ajay Krishna and Stone Wolski, co-winners of the Dustin Funk Trophy as the VHL's most improved players!

Voting:

Ajay Krishna: 3, Stone Wolski: 3, Ziarie Anigbogu: 2, Kevin King: 0

The Scott Boulet Trophy has been the ultimate recognition for the league's power forwards, and it's the next award we'll be announcing! To win this trophy, it takes more than scoring goals. You'll need to brutalize your opponents by making them one with the ice, frustrate them in your defensive zone, and then complete the deal by dominating in the attacking zone. This season, three players stood out as finalists for the Scott Boulet Trophy: Groovy Dood @bigAL of the DC Dragons potted 42 goals and 95 points to go with 267 hits and 44 shots blocked. The reigning champ, Mikko Lahtinen @Beketov, turned in another big year for the Moscow Menace with 36 goals, 99 points in all, a staggering 374 hits and 31 shots blocked. Ola Vikingstad @Dil of the Helsinki Titans put up 41 goals, 94 points, 295 hits and 32 shots blocked to round out our finalists.

The winner of the Scott Boulet Trophy, by unanimous decision, is...

Mikko Lahtinen!

It's back-to-back wins for Mikko Lahtinen, and it's hard to say this was a surprise. He led the finalists in both points and hits, with a big advantage in the latter. Lahtinen didn't match his goal scoring numbers from last season, but his production on the stat sheet remained, and his uptick in physical play made both Moscow and VHFL players quite happy. For now, however, the question for Lahtinen is how many more Boulets the premiere power forward of this generation will bring home?

Congratulations to Mikko Lahtinen, the winner of the Scott Boulet Trophy for the second straight season!

Voting:

Mikko Lahtinen: 8, Ola Vikingstad: 0, Groovy Dood: 0

The Alexander Valiq Trophy recognizes the VHL's top offensive defenseman, and it's an award that has received some fierce competition lately. Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath looks to add to his ever-expanding trophy case, as he led all defensemen with 90 points, including 20 goals. Sophomore sensation Ziarie Anigbogu @ngine4 tallied 81 points, including 68 assists as Toronto's primary facilitator. Jeff Downey @JeffD of the Chicago Phoenix put up 19 goals and 64 assists for a stellar 84 points in his final season, along with teammate Matty Socks @fishy, who led all defensemen with 24 goals, finishing with 81 points.

Does Condor Adrienne strike again for his third Alexander Valiq Trophy? Your winner is...

Condor Adrienne!!

In a unanimous decision, Condor Adrienne brings home his third Alexander Valiq Trophy! Although Matty Socks' 24 goals garnered attention from the voters, Adrienne's 90 points, which led all defensemen, along with scoring 20 goals of his own were simply too much to overcome. Adrienne had plenty of magic left for his final season, and was a pivotal piece towards Malmo's championship season with a VHL-best 70 assists. Take a bow, Condor!

Congratulations to Condor Adrienne, winner of the Alexander Valiq Trophy!

Voting:

Condor Adrienne: 8, Jeff Downey: 0, Matty Socks: 0

On the other hand, the Jake Wylde Trophy is a tremendous badge of honor for the gritty blueliners of the VHL, recognizing the best defensive defenseman in the league. It certainly looks like playing in your own zone was, "in," in Season 75, as we have a whopping six finalists for the award! A pair of New York Americans, Markus Schauer @Plate and Shawn Andrei Zyuzin @TheLastOlympian07, complemented each other very nicely with their different styles of play. Jeff Downey @JeffD makes another appearance tonight, since it turns out he was also pretty stellar in his own zone, along with being an Alexander Valiq Trophy finalist. Fernando Jokinen @Ahma of the HC Davos Dynamo was a shot blocking machine, stopping 200 frozen rubber biscuits with his soft, fleshy body. The ever-physical Jacob Perry @Liberty_Cabbage of the Riga Reign went out in style, showing the young blue liners how to play the body in his final season. Lastly, what defensive awards list is complete without Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath , who quite simply did it all for the Malmo Nighthawks.

The votes are in, folks! The winner of the Season 75 Jake Wylde Trophy is...

Jeff Downey!

In his final season, Jeff Downey cashes in with his first Jake Wylde Trophy! Although players like Condor Adrienne and Lincoln Tate have received tons of acclaim, Jeff Downey has quietly been right up there with them. As a leader on everyone's favorite underdog, the Chicago Phoenix, Downey set the tone in his own end to match his offensive success. With 278 hits and a remarkable 177 shots blocked, he simply was not going to be denied this time!

Congratulations to Jeff Downey, your Jake Wylde Trophy winner as the VHL's top defensive defenseman!

Voting:

Jeff Downey: 7, Shawn Andrei Zyuzin: 1, Condor Adrienne: 0, Fernando Jokinen: 0, Jacob Perry: 0
