At age 16 Declan played in 28 DNL games and scored 26 goals and 14 assists for 40 points and also got a brief 5-game stint in the DEL (German Men's league) that saw him score a single goal.

As a 17 year old he played 12 DNL games and scored 16 goals and 5 assists for 21 points before getting promoted to play in the DEL full-time.
