Brandon 426
Not the most ideal start to his VHLM career, one where Tomas Søgaard took an unnecessarily cheap slashing penalty behind the play to put the Mexico City Kings down by a goal in the first period (one that occurred on the ensuing powerplay). A selfish penalty that ultimately make him spend the rest of the game sitting on the bench only finished with five minutes of ice-time. After a talk from the Kings coach, Søgaard entered the second game wiser. It was a quiet night for the young dane, who didn’t have very many touches on the puck, but also one in which he did not take any penalties. Watching Søgaard move around the ice, it’s evident that he is still learning the new system, which relies heavily on puck possession. With that being said, over the next three games, Søgaard seemed to find his groove, with minimal special teams time. With help from his linemates McKay and Magomedov, Tomas was able to net 4 points over the next 3 games, including a game winning goal over the Houston Bulls with 2 minutes remaining in the third period. Things are looking up for the lone Danish prospect in the S83 draft class as he hopes to work his way up the Kings roster and turn some heads.
