Saskatoon: A Look Ahead

Once again, the drafting period has ended in all three leagues. Now it’s time for franchises to make last minute changes to their roster before the season quickly arrives, whether that may be last minute free agent/waiver signings or releasing unwanted players. It has been a rollercoaster of a ride for many teams in the VHLM, with many teams hoping to at least stay competitive in the playoff hunt. The upcoming season will show a great amount of new generational talent hoping to make it big one day. Today we are here to look at some of the most promising and underrated first gens the Saskatoon Wild picked up in the latest VHLM Dispersal Draft.

G - Jesse Teno @aimkin

The S84 VHLM draft class was severely lacking goaltending, resulting in all of the big name goalies to be selected in the first round immediately. This left Saskatoon in an incredibly vulnerable spot. Without a goalie, even the slightest bit of hope in being competitive this season would be thrown out the window. They had very limited options after the first round, but it seems like they’ve found a diamond in the rough with Jesse Teno. Although incredibly new to the VHLM stage, Saskatoon hopes Jesse starts his hockey career on the right foot. He will be Saskatoon’s starting goaltender for the time being, and will have a significant role in bringing this team wins throughout the season

F - Nikolas Kauppi @Tetricide

The Finnish, Nikolas Kauppi will be one of the heads of the underwhelming Saskatoon offense to start out the season. The organization hopes that he will be able to surprise some people and possibly have an impactful season ahead of him. Scouts note him as a tall buff guy who can carry his own weight, while being able to shoot the puck here and there every so often. His offensive potential is through the roof. If he keeps working hard, he can become a feared competitor for the Saskatoon Wild.

F - Robert Overmeyer @RobBro34

Joining Kauppi as a teammate will be Robert Overmeyer. Someone who many teams looked at as an underrated pick up for whoever got him. Being listed as 5’9 and only 175 pounds. He won’t be a physical guy by any means. But Overmeyer has a natural ability as a forward, and that’s what Saskatoon hopes to get out of him. The question is, can he take the next step forward to stand out from the crowd? Saskatoon hopes that’s the case as they will rely on his offensive capabilities for the time being.

The new VHLM season is just around the corner for us as 10 teams continue their hunt for the famous and beloved Founders Cup. Managers of all teams are ready to get the show on the road as this will be a season full of jam packed talent. Whether first gens or not, there will be some spectacular players on ice for every team. We look forward to seeing what this season has planned for everyone participating in it.
