Season Overview:

Siyan Yasilievich made his debut in the VHL this season for HC Davos Dynamo, helping to lead his team to the playoffs in the wildcard round, something Davos hasn't been able to do for the past couple of seasons. Siyan joins Pete Mitchell, Jake Thunder, and Napoleon Dynamite as the rookie squad for the team. Siyan struggled early on into the season, where he started on the first pair, but wasn't able to put up any points and many skeptics were already raising question marks about Siyan, as he was the 4th overall pick. However, Siyan has silenced the doubters recently with his play, and finished T-7th in Rookie Scoring, which is absolutely massive for the young defenseman. Siyan struggled this season with confidence issues, due to the fact that in the VHLM and VHLE, he was a top scorer, easily adjusting to the play in those leagues. However, the VHL is a different beast and Siyan had to learn that the hard way, where after multiple games he was visibly shaken by some of the losses that his team was experiencing. On top of that, lots of pressure from outside sources expecting Siyan to immediately succeed at such a high level, played a factor on his play. Despite all that, teammates were able to help Siyan through his early season slump, and he was able to finally start to play at a level that showed his upside towards the end of the season. HC Davos Dynamo finished 39-28-5, good for fifth place in EU, and able to slot them into the wildcard round against the Riga Reign. This will be the first time Siyan experiences playoff hockey at the VHL level, and he'll have to step his game up another level to be able to compete with playoff hockey! We'll see how Siyan does as the playoffs start today, and Siyan is ready for whatever comes his way.

Playoff Expectations:

In the playoffs, it's a whole different beast like I said. Anyone can beat anyone and even the best of the best could fall, so it's best to make an early statement for the young star and HC Davos Dynamo. Again, Davos will be going up against Riga in the first round which will be a tough matchup for Davos, although not impossible for the young team. The fact this team made the playoffs is already huge and the experience the young players will get is a massive step in the right direction for Davos, but winning this series would be a huge confidence boost for Siyan and Davos. We asked Siyan his expectations and how he thinks this series will go, to which he said, "Yeah, so I honestly think that this series is going to end up going all five games. Riga isn't an easy team and they have some really solid players on that team. For us, we're looking to take this series one game at a time and we want to be able to put our best foot forward in each game. 100% effort and extra will be required if we want to take down Riga, but I think it is do-able." Critics and doubters are always looking for reasons to nitpick Siyan's game, and one wrong move could have him be on headlines all over the league. With all this pressure, Siyan will have a lot to handle as a young player in the league, but with all the veteran presence on his team helping him out in situations like these, Siyan looks forward to the first round of the playoffs!
