At the end of the last season, Samuelsson was noticeably shaken about his inability to play at a high level. The Red Wolves rookie came to the team with high expectations and failed to be a positive impact in the lineup. In his nineteen games played, he put up four points (one goal and three assists) and was a very disappointing minus twenty. This season, he has put up seven points (one goal and six assists) in his seven games played, and is sitting at plus one. He is also leading the Red Wolves in hits, with twenty-six, and shots blocked, with fifteen. His twenty-six hits are good enough for third in the VHLM. So far, he's showing that he was serious about getting better this season. We asked Samuelsson what he thinks of his play so far, and if he did anything different during the off-season, in preparation of S40.

"I think I'm doing well. I could be better, I love leading my team in points and in plus minus. I'm glad that, defensively I've gotten better. I'm leading the team in hits and shots blocked, which I take a lot of pride in. I really hope to be a leader on this team. I want to be someone the players, coaches, and fans rely on.

As for the off-season, I don't think I did anything different. The only change I really made was my mindset. I came into camp with something to prove, and right now...I'm doing a good job of that, I believe. I certainly still have a long way to go, but I'm glad that I've been getting noticed."

Samuelsson has definitely been getting noticed, as there are rumblings around Moscow that he could be the captain, for S40. It hasn't been a secret that the Red Wolves management are very much behind the player, as they traded up for him in the S40 VHLM Dispersal Draft.

"I don't know too much," Samuelsson indicated "but if I am named captain, of Moscow, I would wear it with pride. It would give validation to everything I've tried, and everything I hope to do. I hope that that honour will enable myself to be thrown into the attention of many VHL general managers."

Borje Samuelsson's childhood friend and SHL prospect, Jed Lloren, also made himself available for comments.

"I haven't seen much of Borje's play, because I've been busy with West Kendall, in the SHL. But, I've kept in contact with him, of course, and I can tell that he's back on his game. Soon, he's going to be the top prospect in the VHLM and every general manager in the VHLM are gonna be kicking themselves for letting him get picked up in the second round by Moscow."

Such high praise for someone who's barely seen twenty games of VHLM action. It will be very interesting to see if Samuelsson can step his game up even more. He should feel some assurance as certain VHL general managers have made contact with him, in hopes of landing the big Swede onto their club. Until then, it's up to Borje to continue to make a name for himself.

Your player seems to be getting better by the game, and if you intend to keep this rapid improvement, Samuelson will be a force in the league someday! 528 words.
