Bobby Ricky and his love for goals

It was a typical winter day in snowy North Dakota with a little Bobby Ricky out practicing hockey with his dad on the frozen over lake. Bobby Ricky’s father, Dickey Ricky, played goalie as Bobby would try to score. They spent hours on the ice, Dickey teaching Bobby some tricks he learned as a high school hockey player and Bobby showed some promise with his lightning fast slap shot but had no control as to where the puck would go.

As he started playing his first organized hockey at age 8, he played very little due to his lack of skating skills and overall lack of ability to do anything but shoot the puck hard. This is where his attitude problems started to arise when his hockey coach continued to bench him. His coach gave Bobby a note to give to his parents that read:

“Please spend more time with your son on teaching him manners and basic skating skills or else take him off the team.”

After giving this note to his father, his father told him to tell the coach:

“Mind your own damn business and play my son you ass. It’s a youth league for all kids to get a chance to play.”

The next day at practice, when his coach asked 8-year-old Bobby if he gave his parents the note he responded:

“Oh yeah my dad read it and wanted me to tell you to mind your mother fucking business, you stupid ass hockey coach bitch. Hockey stick and puck not knowing which goes in the goal bitch. Beer belly with sweaty fat rolls on your back bitch.”

While his teammates sure thought it was funny, the coach nor his parents did as Bobby Ricky got kicked off the team and got an ass-whooping at home from his dad. After everything cooled down, Dickey Ricky started to teach his son more and more about the fundamentals of the game but all Bobby Ricky cared about was scoring goals. Whenever Dickey tried to get his son to do skating drills, Bobby would bitch and moan until they just gave up the skating drills to work on his scoring. If Bobby wasn’t scoring goals, he wouldn’t play hockey.

As he got older and made the freshman high school team, he made an agreement with the coach to not work on any defensive drills, just focus on offense and scoring. However, when he made varsity the next year, he got into yelling matches with his coach for having to work on the fundamentals. That led Bobby Ricky to get suspended for 25 games his sophomore season and he barely saw ice time when he did play.

Some would think that his attitude would get better as he matured, but his need to score is in his DNA and he is finally doing that at the professional level with 24 goals in 20 games this season for the Ottawa Lynx. His drug problems and alcohol problems have been well documented over his course of time in the VHLM, it all seems to stem from his need to score. If he doesn’t score he has to find some sort of high in other ways so he turns to drugs and booze to cope. Time will tell if he can find some mentorship from the Lynx or Americans to help him finally get over his mentality of either you score a goal or you’re shit.
