Moritz Stauffer is a big defensemen hailing from Germany; a country not known as a powerhouse in ice hockey. Slowly, but surely, he's been rising up in draft boards as he's becoming a steady defensement in the VHLM who can log big minutes, play sound defense and chip in offensively. While this hasn't entirely translated to wins for the Halifax 21st this season, it's not fair to shoulder the blame on Stauffer who played an integral role last season with the Mexico City Kings playoff run. With the VHL Draft approaching, Stauffer SHOULD be on the radars of most VHL GM's who need a great two-way puck moving defensemen. We caught up with Mo today and asked him some questions regarding his VHL expectations heading into the Draft and his reflections on his VHLM experience.

Q: You've been moving up the draft boards heading into this next VHL Draft Mo, have you had talks with any teams yet and what has that been like?

A: No. Nobody has reach out to me. Probably focus on winning right now like me, so they don't worry about talking to people like me yet. I see scouts in stands sometimes. They watch a lot. I just focus on winning for team right now.

Q: Speaking of winning right now, the 21st have had a disappointing season according to some based on early expectations. What are your thoughts on that?

A: We want to win. I want to win. We hear the noise and we know we are better. We must be better for sure.

Q: You were notably left off of the roster for the World Junior Championship last offseason, has that motivated you to be a better player this season?

A: Hmm. Yes, I think so. It hurt not being on the roster. I play in prospect tournament shortly after that and I played strong game there. I worked hard in offseason to be better and still work hard but to say it was because of not being invited to international tournament? I don't know.

Q: Do you have any preferred destination in the VHL to be drafted to? Europe or North America matter to you?

A: Look I am from Germany and play in Canada and Mexico already. Don't matter to me, what is one more language to learn? Already know German, English, bit of Spanish and French. I play for whoever want me and pay me good money.

Q: Thanks Mo for talking with us and good luck the rest of the way!

A: Thank you!
