Jayhawk 93
(Words: 566) To say Tim Riggins had a great season with Mexico City would be an understatement. After a 91-point rookie season, Riggins followed it up with a 127 points season finishing 3rd among total points and first in goals with 65. His rookie season saw him score 29 goals and 62 assists. In his second year, he blew past his 29 goals, right to 65. He tied his assists at 62. Through 2 seasons in the VHLM, Riggins has gone on to dominate certain teams. During his rookie season, he would feast on Las Vegas, Houston, and Miami. In his second season, he would take it to a whole new level. Riggins would collect 25 points against Saskatoon ( 12 goals, 13 assists ), 20 points against Las Vegas ( 7 goals, 13 assists ), 19 Points against Houston ( 12 goals, 7 assists), and 14 points against Miami ( 6 goals, 8 assists ). Only 3 teams in the VHLM kept him under 10 points against them all season. Why does this matter you ask? Well, the playoffs have arrived. the second round now pins Mexico City Kings against the Houston Bulls. That's right, the same Bulls that Riggins seemed to be a pain all season. During the season Riggins went on to have 5 Multi-point games, and 2 hat-trick ( one of those was a 4 goal game). Only once was he held off the scoresheet. Now you may be wondering if this is a piece of how Riggins will carry the Kings through to the finals. that would be wrong. While Riggins has been a dominant player against certain teams, I think Houston will try and slow him down. The issue with that is Mexico City has multiple scoring threats. Yes, Riggins has had a great season but he is a product of a team that developed a system that gets the offense you need. So while Riggins has had a great season, playoff teams that try and slow him down then face Captain Nugget, Grizz Tazzo, Justin Williams, Colton Heffelfinger, Reginald the Dodo, and more. Houston and Mexico City have met 10 times this season and Mexico City won 7 for a reason. They have a system that makes playing them difficult. They have players that bring their best almost every night, and on nights the entire team brings their best, no one seems able to stop them. In terms of Riggins and his future, this is his last season here in Mexico. Next season he joins the ranks of the Cologne Express. A team that finished first in the VHLE with 52 wins and scored 241 goals. The previous season Cologne finished first as well and scored 253 goals. Riggins will be joining a team that has no issues scoring goals and after the season he has had it seems he will fit right in. Cologne's top Scorer this season was David Cobberson. He had 49 goals and 95 points. Now, this in no way means Riggins will top the team next season as the jump from VHLM to VHLE is a big one. But one can assume he will be a valued addition to the team. That, however, is next season's story. This season is about Mexico City and their campaign to the summit of the VHLM. Time will tell how it ends, but it will be fun watching Riggins and the rest of the Kings climb the summit.
