It was a tough and trying start to the season for James MacAvoy of the Toronto Legion. 22 games into the season, he was closing in on 50 shots without a goal. It's always difficult when the chances are coming, but the puck just won't go into the net. The biscuit finally got into the basket for MacAvoy in game 23 against the Calgary Wranglers, a 7-3 win for the Legion. Following that breakthrough goal was another eight game goal scoring drought, giving MacAvoy 1 goal through the first 31 games of the season.

Fast forward to today, and MacAvoy is now sitting on 10 goals in 53 games. After the 1 in 31 run to start the season, MacAvoy now has 9 in his last 22. That run includes a stretch of 7 goals in 9 games where MacAvoy was named the second star of the game against Moscow with a 3 point performance and the third star of the game against New York just two games later, scoring the game tying goal in the third period.

The unlucky shooting percentage to start the season under 2% through the first 31 games now sits at 6.58%, bouncing back to a much more reasonable level than the start. MacAvoy shot 9.31% last season in Davos, so there is no reason to expect that it won't continue to improve this season and regress back to his norm. I expect a strong finish to the season heading into the playoffs for the second year player.
