TheHockey_pro 27
Victory Hockey League: A Biography Victory Hockey League was born in Yaren, Nauru an island in Oceania. Where Victory is from he never got to play hockey and had never heard of the sport. Victory’s family lived in Nauru until Victory was 8 and then they decided to move to Australia. Once in Australia Victory wanted to get active and play some sports after his new friends at school suggested he try some. Well Victory tried soccer, american football, rugby, basketball and baseball before trying the sport of hockey. He enjoyed Basketball a lot more than hockey but he enjoyed both sports so he asked his parents to sign him up for both sports. Overtime Victory got really good at basketball and hockey and had rep coaches from both sports asking him to join their team. Victory spent the off-season deciding what sport he wanted to do more and after a long thought process he decided to go with hockey. He left the school’s basketball team and stopped playing basketball in general never to play basketball again. Now where did Victory go from there? At the age of 14 Victory went looking for junior professional hockey programs around the world he could try to join knowing that his family was poor. If he could become a professional athlete he could help his family. Victory ended up finding the Canadian Hockey League. He went around and found an agent to get his name in the OHL,QMJHL or WHL draft. After 5 months of waiting his agent came back with the good news that Victory was eligible for the OHL draft. Come time for the OHL draft he was waiting patiently at home waiting for a call, and in the 4th round the Erie Otters selected Victory Hockey League. Victory ended up moving to Erie alone saying goodbye to his family and friends for the time being. Victory was sad that he was going to be away from home but was happy for this opportunity. His agent was able to find a place for them to live and there started Victory’s journey to the NHL, or so he thought. Victory had just turned 16 and the Erie management had called him and said “You will be on the starting roster next season. Keep working hard!” Victory knew that this was his chance to prove to everyone that he was talented. His agent then called saying “Hey Victory, I found this other professional hockey league that has the exact same name as you. It is just as competitive as the NHL with great development and a better chance to get drafted to the pros. Should I sign you up to the VHL draft instead of the NHL draft for your draft season?” Victory thought and eventually said yes and so he knew that his goals were set on something different than anyone else on the team as now it was to make the VHL. After that he called his parents and told them his new plan and as always they supported him. Since it was his birthday they called for almost 6 hours that day but after that he had to start focusing and getting better. Victory started watching the VHL on his tv to see what the play style was like and seeing what he could learn from the players who are already there. Then he found out about the development leagues called the VHLM and the VHLE. So he started watching those games as well. His agent then told him that there is a VHLM team in Philadelphia so Victory made plans to go down and watch a game one day with his agent. Victory is a very defensive defenseman and playing with Erie did well defensively but offensively not so much playing in all 68 games getting 2 goals and 12 assists and sadly the Erie otters missed out on the playoffs so their season was over. Victory continued training and then he decided that he was going to go to a Philadelphia Reapers game against the San Diego Marlins. He loved the atmosphere in the VHLM arenas and loved the teams’ jerseys and logos. He went there to see what it was like not to support a team but he loved the game and the Reapers ended up getting a shutout against the Marlins in a 5-0 win. Half of the next season goes by with the Erie Otters and his agent comes up to Victory and says “You can join a team in the VHLM now as a waiver for the rest of the season.” Victory thought and thought. Looked at what teams needed and what teams needed a defender. Eventually he decided to join the San Diego Marlins and is no longer playing in the OHL because of this. His journey to the VHL has started with his first contract in the VHLM.
