Okay, so I'm playing a little bit of catchup here since the playoffs are over and I'm still on round one, but some real life health complications kinda put me out of commission for a bit and I'm itching to get back up to speed-- though I'm not quite there yet so this may be a concise one...

With high hopes entering the VHLM Founder's Cup Playoffs, the Halifax 21st drew a first round matchup against the 8th seeded Philadelphia Reapers, a team that they hadn't lost to during the regular season, though the reapers did give them a good fight on a few occassions and one overtime game that could've gone either way.  To be fair to the Reapers, it was a case of two teams at different points in the compete cycle and there's a good chance that Philly is on the winning side of the matchup in the near future.  In this first round series, however, Halifax would continue their head-to-head dominance and would sweep Philadelphia in 4 games.

While it may not have been a long series, or one that had the 21st nervous at any point, the series clinching game 4 was a thrilling affair.  Philly led late in the game by a 1-0 score until Halifax tied the game in the 3rd period on a clutch power-play goal by VHLM rookie and waiver pickup, Bret Weier @Quanack.  The game headed to overtime with the teams locked at one goal apiece, the Reapers' season hanging by a thread.  After two periods of overtime, the game remained tied as the tension rose.  The Reapers' goalie, Vincenzo Pagano @Oatex, was looking more and more like he was about to steal the game with 69 saves on 70 shots though 5 periods of play until 1:44 of the 3rd overtime period when Bret Weier would strike again and send the boats sailing into the second round.

For Weier, a player who was early in his development on a deep 21st squad, it's been a grind all season to get up to speed with the pace and play of the VHLM and he's done a more than admirable job!  He currently sits at 159 TPE after being a waiver pickup and is poised to be a top pick in the upcoming VHLM dispersal draft-- GMs take note! Weier's agent @Quanack has been working consistently behind the scenes every week to help his player improve and a couple of excellent podcasts show the potential he has to go far in the VHL world.  On a personal level, he's been nothing but a great teammate and has really pushed through a challenging season to become one of the best prospects going forward.  For all of his hard work and dedication throughout Season 94, and for such a clutch performance to clinch a first round victory, congratulations to Bret Weier on being the first round SuperSailor!
