The Mississauga Hounds have been off to a slower start this season than the last. They are currently 5-5-2, which has them sitting third in the Eastern Conference and seventh in the league overall.

Defenseman Slava Kovalenko had this to say when asked about where the Hounds were currently sitting.

"It's frustrating, but I'm mostly frustrated with myself to be honest. I know I can be playing better, and I know I need to step things up, really examine my game closely so I can fine tune and tweak things. There's no reason we should be here, and we've got the guys to move up in the standings but all of us are going to have to dig deep. I'm confident we can do that, though."

The winner of the Sullivan trophy for last season, one can reasonably expect Kovalenko to stick to his word when it comes to looking at where he can improve. This is only the defenseman's second full season in the VHL as he came into the league during the season 94 trade deadline, playing just 12 games for Ottawa. He's come a long way in a short period of time, and we wish him and his teammates all the best.
