Daniel Janser 2,184
With the Americans' bye for the WC series, the management put the players on public relation duties. Callum and his merry men were sent to schools to encourage young children to do sports for a healthier, more balanced life style. The caveat was to show different sports than icehockey, to break the stereotype of being a one trick pony. The Swiss giant signed up for freeclimbing and sailing, hobbies he enjoyed growing up in Canada and Switzerland. At first the kids were afraid of heights and were hesitant to give climbing a try. But when they learned that Cal is a certified mountain guide and will personally anchor them with his 220lbs, the youngsters felt more confident and cautiously approached the wall. Coached by Janser who gave them hints which hand- or foothold to use next, taking into consideration individual strength and reach, every child made it to the top occasionally. The Americans' Captain made it a point that in climbing, rushing is not the best choice to achieve the goal, as it does not forgive mistakes easily. Afterwards, he lead the pupils who were interested to the Hudson to get their introduction into sailing. He showed them how to tie a knot to lash the boat to the bollard and how to trim the boat in different situations. At the end, the kids were given the assignment to try and board each other, after fenders were mounted along the hull, so the impact would not be too powerful to cause harm to the boats stability. The wanna-be-pirates clearly enjoyed their 'exam' put in front of them and the Calgary native was confident that some of them would pick up either of the two options as a new pastime.
