Reporter: Dorji, it's been quite a rookie season for you with the Toronto Legion. The team didn't make the playoffs but your individual growth has been significant. How would you describe your first year in the VHL?

Dorji: It's been a learning experience. I came in with high hopes and while we didn’t make the playoffs, I think I grew a lot as a player. The VHL is a whole different level of competition and it pushed me to step up my game.

Reporter: You finished the season with 46 points in 72 games, just one goal shy of 25. That's impressive for a rookie. What do you think contributed to your success on the ice?

Dorji: It was in big part because of the support from my teammates and management. They believed in me and gave me the opportunities and put me in situations I needed to succeed. I focused on improving every aspect of my game as much offensively as defensively. It's all about adapting to the big leagues.

Reporter: You had 24 goals and 22 assists. How did you manage to find that balance between scoring and setting up your teammates?

Dorji: Hockey is a team sport and I always try to play with that in mind. I love scoring but I also enjoy making plays and setting up my teammates. I also have a big body so I try to open up space on the ice to give them the room they need to make plays. It's about being aware of what's happening on the ice and making the right decisions.

Reporter: You were 3rd on the team with 5 game winning goals. What does it feel like to contribute in those clutch moments?

Dorji: It's an amazing feeling. Those are the moments you dream of and being able to come through for my team when it matters most is very rewarding. It gives me the confidence needed to keep moving forward.

Reporter: As we look forward to next season, what specific areas of your game are you focusing on to improve?

Dorji: I'm focusing on refining my defensive skills but also try and add a bit more of my scoring touch. The VHL is fast-paced and those aspects can always be improved. I try to work as hard as I can to be a well rounded player that can be put in every situation.

Reporter: How have your experiences in the VHLE and VHLM helped shape you into the player you are today?

Dorji: My time in the VHLE with the Brats and VHLM with Halifax was crucial for me. The VHLM taught me the basics of professional hockey like discipline and consistency. In the VHLE I faced tougher competition which prepared me for the intensity of the VHL. Both has taught me resilience, the importance of being dedicated and constantly try evolving my game.

Reporter: Looking back at your rookie season, is there a particular game or moment that you’re most proud of?

Dorji: Scoring my first goal was a highlight. It was a surreal moment that I’ll never forget. But honestly I’m proud of how I’ve grown throughout the season always getting better game by game.

Reporter: Any last words for the young players hoping to make it to the VHL?

Dorji: Stay focused and be ready to work hard every day. Use every game and practice as an opportunity to learn and improve. Listen to management and teammates and never be afraid to make mistakes. It’s all part of the journey.
