This game was never in doubt and showed serious potential in San Diego's forwards today. Zak Trokker kicked off the scoring for the Marlins very early in the first to jump out to a lead they would never surrender, potting another on the powerplay late in the period with the first goal from Jean-Pierre Devote. Though the game was never in doubt, that's not to say Saskatoon would not respond. Defensive partners Mikko Tuomala and Brigitta Sandstrom combined for a powerplay goal late in the second to make it a 2-1 game heading into the third, but the third period was where San Diego really put the game on ice. Devote put up his ninth of the season and second of the game a quarter of the way through the period, quickly followed by a powerplay goal by Cardinal Copia 24 seconds later to make it 4-1. Tuomala and Sandstrom combined yet again on the powerplay for Saskatoon, potting Tuomala's second goal of the game, showcasing the strength of this duo, but it wouldn't be enough. With a little bit over six minutes remaining in the third, San Diego closed it out with a Devote goal - a hat trick at even strength to make it 5-2. From that point onwards, the game ended relatively quietly, with only a delay of game penalty on San Diego to give Saskatoon some hope late, but it wasn't enough as they were unable to close the gap with the score at 5-2 as time expired.
