Hi, I’m Joe ‘Blow’ Jabowski, host of First Scoop. I sat down with VHLM prospect Rolf Jakob MacWallace to discuss the start of his journey to get here and some contentious moments along the way. Join us for a very personal, inside scoop on Rolf.

 

Joe Blow: Rolf, Rolf, can I call you Rolf?

 

Rolf: Yeah.

 

Rolf, I’ll start with something easy, get things moving, and get you comfortable.

 

Hit me.

 

Your uncle, Ronald MacWallace III, was one hell of a player, certainly, you looked up to him a lot as you were growing up. Do you think his inability to perform in high-pressure situations, ie; the playoffs, has had any impact on your game or your mentality? Moreover; do you think your family lineage is cursed? If this is the case do you see a point in even trying to pursue a career in the VHL? What’s the point if you’re never going to win it all?

 

What?

 

Would you like me to repeat the question? I thought it was pretty straightforward.

 

Jesus. Um… I respect my uncle a lot. Of course, I wish they won it all. I was really close with a lot of that core. They used to let me go to Taco Bell with them. Um… What was the rest of that? Cursed? Pointless? Um… no, I’m passionate, of course I’m ready to give everything to win.

 

So, you think that teams choker mentality wore off on you. I see… But, hey ready to try your best! Isn’t that just so good for you!

Moving on… Malmo, what a beautiful city. So glad I was able to fly out here for this interview.

 

Um. Yeah, it's great, was that a question?

 

Oh right! So, is everyone in Malmo as mean as it seems? No one seems to respond to me when I ask them anything. I suppose a few people do but they seem very stupidm, they speak so funny. Sort of like you do. Whats up with that?

 

Malmo… We… We’re Swedish, we speak Swedish. A lot of us speak English pretty well. Are you, you’re joking right?

 

Sure, haha, I’m joking. Of course, you speak Swedish, that’s right I knew that.

Back to the topic at hand. Who, apart from your uncle, would you say is your biggest inspiration, and who do you model your game after the most?

 

Wow, finally a decent question. 

 

Hahaha, you are funny! All my questions are great! Me and my team work hard! Hahaha.

 

Yeah… Anyways. Of course, Jacob Stone is a guy I look at, I’d love to have a career as great as he did. Oh, and maybe Quinn Hughes in the NHL? He’s a slick skater and I think I have a similar style to him.

 

Haha! So your biggest role models… None of them have won a ring! What a crazy coincidence!

 

Really? Stone is a legendary player. Quinn Hughes is just entering his prime… Whatever.

 

Hahaha! Yes, whatever! You have such a laid-back attitude! Shrugging things off is easy Rolf. Hopefully, you aren’t shrugging practices and important games off! We would all hate to see you crash and burn. Hahaha joking of course!

 

Are you serious? You're the one with attitude issues. Seriously.

 

Let's move on Rolf! No need to get angry! That's not a good look! GMs are looking to sign you right now. Now, let's talk about your childhood some more!

Growing up so close to the Nighthawks players, you definitely knew some of the families. 

 

Yeah, I guess I was close with some of them. Viktor Jensen, and Ash Sparks when I was younger. There were a lot of good people on that team…

 

The Tzesars for example! You and Krister were pretty close, weren't you? On account of your uncle and his dad being tight-knit!

 

My uncle and Savaisk were good friends for sure. Me and Krister were not.

 

Looking at how well Krister is doing, do you think you'll ever be able to match his success? Or will you always be one step behind him, cheering him on from the sidelines?

 

No, I won't be cheering him on and he won't be a step ahead, he's too slow for that.

 

Woah! Touchy subject! That is quite the reaction. Is that on account of him being a better player and better defender?

 

He's not a good player, he plays the game like a stupid person.

 

Well now, that's no way to talk about a fellow athlete! There's a lot of tension there, can I ask why?

Okay okay hahaha, I won't pry too much, I'm sure we'll be diving more into that in the future!

If you could be any flavour of chip what flavour would you be and why?

 

Yeah… dill pickle I guess?

 

Haha you're not even sure about that, You're a very unsure person Rolf, is that going to impact your decision making on the ice?

 

Hey, look, if you keep up this whole weird attitude towards me, asking this type of questions. I will leave. I will leave. 

 

Haha, you're absolutely right, Rolf. We'll stop asking “this type of questions!”

 

Now you are joking about my accent? You do not even speak a second language. Making fun of me. Stupid American.

I wanted to ask you about your 18th birthday, you were spotted with a bunch of beans and there have been rumours circulating… something about a tricycle and some ducks?

Well folks, that was Rolf MacWallace, defensive prospect for the VHLM. Honestly he must have been having a bad day… If it weren't for the word count we have to hit I think he would've left sooner. If there were any GMs watching take note of that boys attitude! Very laid-back, but so angry! And why?
