Florida Man II is a top prospect for the S99 Victory Hockey League draft class. It has been nearly a month since the American forward joined the Halifax 21st, and despite a slow start, has remained confident through the growing pains. When he isn't breaking the law at any given moment, Man is best described as a complementary winger who excels in the defensive aspects of the game. Comparable to players such as Miner vHLer, Tim Robinson, or Toby Kadachi.

Strengths

1. Defensive positioning

  • Man does not play your typical aggressive defensive style. He prides himself on playing a smart game that allows himself to manipulate the time and space of puck carriers by giving them a false sense of security before forcing a turnover and ending their hopes and dreams of VHL stardom.

2. Stick checking

  • He has exceptional reach and is quite sneaky with his stick. He has mastered the art of baiting opponents by keeping his stick close to his body with the expectation of the player placing the puck in an area more susceptible to a poke check. On top of that, he backchecks like a menace and is elite at stealing pucks from players in all three zones.

3. Skating

  • Buddy has unbelievable wheels. There are not many players faster than Man when he gets going. Whether he is skating with the puck, establishing a forecheck, or closing gaps in the neutral zone, you can expect him to be buzzing around the ice each and every shift.

Weaknesses

1. Shot selection

  • While it is not necessarily a glaring issue, Man is willing to shoot from just about anywhere. Sometimes even intentionally at the opponents' heads to keep them in line.

2. Look good, play good kinda guy

  • Man is all about the spotlight and is frequently looking to make unconventional plays just to show up on a highlight reel. He is a bit of a puck hog, but he generally makes up for his turnovers with great defense. As far as he is concerned, he is the best player on the ice and could not care less what his teammates think. Big time glue guy.

3. Wanted in five countries

  • Man is no stranger to engaging in highly illegal criminal activity. Currently he has warrants for his arrest in Argentina, Egypt, Luxembourg, Panama, and North Korea. As long as the VHL does not expand to any of those countries, he should be okay. Though it is not guaranteed he keeps it clean during his time in the league.

Conclusion

Man should be an impact player almost immediately. If teams can find a way to keep him in check, they will be getting a potential two-way beast who is also extremely loyal despite his sporadic behavior. Will teams be willing to bet their future on this egomaniac? We shall find out very soon.
