Game Discussion

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, we will be looking into game seven of the Continental Cup Finals.  After the Americans overcame a 2-1 deficit to win game six in overtime, the VHL was excited to see such a tight series go to a do or die game seven.  This game was extremely tight from the opening faceoff, with the Americans having the edge despite all 22 shots from either side being turned away.  But this would quickly change at the start of the second period.  After Matt Bentley recovered a quick shot on goal by the Reign, he sent the puck to his outlet, Milos Denis, who carried the puck into the offensive zone before taking Mike Szatkowski Jr. by surprise and putting the pick right below his glove to give the Americans a one goal lead just seconds into the period.  Six minutes later, the Americans would strike again as Conner Low found the back of the net to put his team up by two.  The Reign continued to struggle to put the puck past Brick Wahl, unarguably the best player of the playoffs up to this point.  With just five minutes to go in the period, though, Alistar Graves deflected a Robin Gow shot into the net to cut New York's lead in half and give the Reign some life.  The third period, unsurprisingly, was a defensive battle as the Americans desperately worked to hold onto their slim lead.  But a late period penalty came back to haunt them as Slaeter Fjorsstrom blasted a rebound into the net to tie the game in dramatic fashion.  Unfortunately, this 2-2 score would hold for less than thirty seconds as New York star Tom Slaughter scored what would be the game-winner, helping the Americans win another Continental Cup!
