Alucard 46
Nezhmetdinov Issues Charity Challenge Evgeny Nezhmetdinov in action for the Storm. Hockey players are no stranger to charity; every year those lucky enough to make a living playing their beloved sport reach out to those less fortunate than themselves, and frequently the benefactors are sick children who idolise those who play the game. Often these charitable acts are organised by the players' teams, but sometimes a player hears of a particular case and decides to show his support. Sometimes a player will even come up with a rather quirky way to benefit another, such as this week's news of a challenge issued by Oslo Storm winger Evgeny Nezhmetdinov. The colourful Kazakh grew up playing chess before switching to hockey, but he still enjoys doing battle over the sixty-four checkered squares. Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Nezhmetdinov extended an open challenge to all those in the VHL and the VHLM, inviting anyone interested to play four games of five-minute chess with him. The rules? The loser must forfeit one week's wages to a charity of the winner's choice. If the match ends in a draw, both players will donate half a week's wages. The games are to be played on chess.com (where Nezhmetdinov's current live rating is 1548), though the player is open to other suggestions.
