Strengths:

Puck Handling: Cal Davidson has a very well-rounded offensive game, but his most impressive skill is his elite puck handling. When Cal gets the puck, he can easily skate from one end of the rink to the other, using a variety of dekes to get right past the defenders. His silky smooth handles cause the defense to scramble, opening up opportunities to shoot the puck or set up his teammates.

Scoring: Cal is most known for his dangles, but he also has an incredible shot. He can get the puck into the net from anywhere in the offensive zone, but he particularly likes to shoot from the hash marks, from where he has an insane 35% shooting percentage. On the power play you will often see Cal posted in the faceoff circle, waiting to unleash a deadly one-timer.

Passing: Even though Cal is great at scoring, he never gets greedy, and he always sees teammates in open scoring positions. He never hesitates to pass to his teammate instead of shooting the puck himself, making him a great team player. Cal is good at building chemistry with his teammates, and after a short period of time he always knows where his linemates will be. This allows him to get very creative and crafty with his passes, confusing the defenders and goalie to give his teammates an even better chance of scoring.

Weaknesses:

Discipline: Cal Davidson is a very intense and competitive player, but unfortunately this sometimes causes him to lose his head. It’s easy to get under his skin, and when Cal is aggravated he often lays dangerous hits and makes irresponsible plays. He is prone to taking penalties at important points in the game when his adrenaline is going and he gets fired up easier. Teams have learned to take advantage of Cal’s discipline issues, causing them to be even more of a problem for him and his team.

Defense: Because of Cal Davidson’s tremendous offensive abilities, he spent a lot of time in the offensive zone, and never got much practice defending. Because he didn’t have to defend very often, Cal never learned the value of defense, so he never trained it, since he felt like he would never have to defend. This limits Cal’s versatility, since he cannot be used in defensive roles. Cal Davidson’s lack of defensive prowess could cause difficulty in the future as the other teams’ offense and defense gets better.

Strength: Cal Davidson has never been physically strong, but it usually isn’t a problem, since his agility and finesse allow him to avoid contact and get where he wants on the ice. However, Cal’s lack of strength can be an issue in physical games, especially in the playoffs. In games when players are more inclined to throw hits, Cal often gets worn down and quickly fatigued. You will often see Cal Davidson’s name near the top of the scoresheet in the regular season, but he usually experiences a dip in production during the playoffs because of the physical style of hockey that is played. Since Cal isn’t strong, he is also more injury prone than most players.

Conclusion:

Cal Davidson projects to be an elite center with lots of offensive flair. He will never be a two-way forward, but his scoring skills should allow him to be an impact player on any team that he plays for. Cal is a great fit on any scoring line, and he is set to put up fantastic point totals in the VHLM and VHL.
