With his father being a sports writer for the local paper and his mother a die hard fan, Chris was always surrounded by the sport. It made perfect sense that when he was ten that he would be enroll in a hockey camp located near his family home. The first few years in Chris' hockey life was all about the basics. He learned how to skate, shoot and handle the puck. At the age of twelve, Chris had his first ever hockey game. It would prove to be very successful as he scored two goals and also recorded an assist. In the next three years, Chris would prove to be the best player on his team. In his last season, he even put up record numbers for his league in what would be his last season before heading off to high school. STATS: (Age 12)SEASON 1: 47GP – 20G – 20A - 40P(Age 13)SEASON 2: 47GP – 25G – 16A – 41P(Age 14)SEASON 3: 47GP – 30G – 22A – 52P**record best season High School Chris was now fifteen and had been playing hockey for five years. On his first day of high school he went to a tryout for the school's junior varsity team. Two days later he was delighted to report to his parents that he made the roster. Chris was always gifted in the fact that he was fast on the ice. Once he had the puck he would take off like a rocket. Again, Chris would eventually set records, but in the first season and a half for the boy he struggled getting used to the system and the increased skill of the players. Then mid-way though his second season, Chris Raymond would explode on the high school scene. He finally became comfortable with his position (left wing) and his role as an elite sniper in the league. With his new found role, Raymond made it his goal to improve his shot as best as possible, as it would be his ticket to becoming one of the best talents on the high school scene. STATS: (Age 15)SEASON 1: 40GP – 10G – 8A - 18P(Age 16)SEASON 2: 42GP – 15G – 10A – 25P(Age 17)SEASON 3: 50GP – 40G – 20A – 60P College/Simulation Hockey League Chris Raymond played one day of college hockey before being picked up by the SHL. It is here that he would spend four seasons gradually improving his play. When he first joined the league, no one thought he was going to be anything special. In fact, most would laugh at him and say that he was too small for the SHL. Sadly his first year would be a struggle as Chris only recorded two points in the forty-nine games he played. However, Chris Raymond made exceptional strides in his second and third seasons in the league. A significant part of his improvement had to do with him finding the back of the net a lot more consistently. In the one-hundred games that he played in over those two seasons, Raymond recorded eighteen goals and twenty-five assists. This was good enough for forty-three points over that span, which certainly was a steady and productive improvement from his first year. It would be his fourth season that would show off his hard work as he recorded thirty-two points. This dramatic increase in points from his first season garnered him a lot of fan support and a lot more money. However, later that season Chris would make the decision to retire from the league due to some drama that would take place. STATS:(Age 18) SEASON 1: 49GP - 2G - 0A - 2P (Edmonton Blizzard)(Age 19) SEASON 2: 50GP - 5G - 13A - 18P (Hamilton Steelhawks)*(Age 20) SEASON 3: 50GP - 14G - 12A - 26P (West Kendall Platoon)(Age 21) SEASON 4: 50GP - 11G - 21A - 32P (New England Wolfpack)*championship season Victory Hockey League Chris Raymond would finally come back after a year away from the rink, as he looked to make an impact in the Victory Hockey League. In just his first week in the VHL, Chris has already found himself a place to play as he was drafted by the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM. This is the first step of what will hopefully be a long career in the VHL. Pro'sSpeed: It is no secret that Chris Raymond has a set of cannons for legs. His speed is perhaps his best asset when it comes to his skill-set. When he touches the puck, he takes off and easily maintains control of not only the puck but his surroundings as well. His speed makes him hard to catch and even harder to stop on the rush. GRADE: A+ Puck Handling: The ability Chris shows while the puck is on his stick is pure magic. Chris spent many years practicing how to maintain the puck during various situations. His finesse with the puck makes it easier for him to pass it off in a split second or to shoot it if the angle is right. Look for him to hang onto the puck until the very last second, deke through defenders or spin towards the outside as he uses his speed and his superior handling of the puck to create magic on the ice. GRADE: A Passing: Chris started out as a sniper but changed his role to a passer instead. He is able to look up the ice and pass off the puck with great accuracy. His ability to remain calm while covered and still get the puck away cleanly, shows years of practice and dedication to the game of hockey. With Chris you should expect the unexpected pass as he likes to hang onto the puck until the very last second before dishing a sweet feed to one of his teammates. GRADE: B- ConsStrength: While Chris has shown to be an absolute speedster, he severely lacks strength. Defenders can knock him off the puck fairly easily if they are covering him tightly. He tends to lose battles along the boards unless he has the momentum going into it. Unfortunately, any hit he takes is magnified as well due to his size which has concerned scouts in the past over whether he will become too fragile to have a long career. GRADE: D- Skating: Even though Chris is fast and agile, he has a slight issue with his skating technique. Chris often loses footing in mid stride causing him to turn over the puck, he tends to take off a little slower as it takes him a few extra seconds to get the right footing before bursting off. GRADE: F Discipline: Chris Raymond is also prone to taking a bad penalty as he often forgets to check his stick height or misses with the lift. If it's not high sticking it usually is tripping from a poke check. Look for him to improve in this aspect dramatically as he tries to become a more productive and efficient core player for his team.
