Across A Nation

Part 4.0

The province of Quebec has always produced extremely talented hockey players and in this fourth segment of Across A Nation, we take a closer look at those talents. Broken up into three mini-categories, we will assess the free agent, VHLM and VHL class of Quebecers.

Adam Harris

Justt McCauley

Shadhu Rathod

Captain Bacon

Starting with the free agent class, that short list consists of Captain Bacon, Shadhu Rathod, Justt McCauley and former first round selection Adam Harris. The shortest tenure of any of these players belongs to Captain Bacon, a resident of Shawinigan, Quebec. His brief 16-game stint with the Brampton Blades back in Season 33 was about as much exposure as this young player received during his career. Drafted 39th overall in the Season 31 Draft by the Seattle Bears, Bacon, as mentioned, only took in 16 games, where he compiled 5 points, 8 penalty minutes and 22 hits. Since that lone campaign, Captain Bacon has been sitting idle and will probably continue to do so.

Shadhu Rathod is another player that has been sitting waiting for the phone to ring. Having last played during Season 35 in the VHLM with the Minot Gladiators, where he tallied 24 goals and 52 assists for 76 points, including a +56 and 120 hits, it would appear that Rathod has the abilities to compete at this level. Granted he’s been passed up by the future stars of this league, the former 19th overall selection of the Cologne Express back in Season 33 should be able to land on a roster somewhere in Season 38 given that he’s still a young guy looking to earn his keep. Shadhu is a Montreal, Quebec native and has been training hard over the last few weeks in anticipation of a contract signing.

Gatineau’s own Justt McCauley was drafted by the Cologne Express during the Season 33 VHL Entry Draft 40th overall. Prior to that however, Justt toiled with the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM, where in Season 36, the last active season for McCauley, he notched 56 points, including 34 assists and 94 hits, but was a -31 as a defensive liability. Justt has a few seasons of experience in the VHLM, but he was never able to translate any of that towards a promotion to the VHL, which was due primarily to the overall lack of practice hours obtained. Nevertheless, Justt is a scrub and a roster filler at best.

A former 1st round draft pick of the Seattle Bears 4th overall, Adam Harris of Montreal is entering his final season of VHL/VHLM eligibility. A Season 30 draftee, Harris’ final VHLM season came in Season 32 where he skated in 63 games compiling 57 goals and 63 assists for a solid 120 points. Not only was Adam a force on offense, but his +62, 68 penalty minutes, 108 hits and a 63.39 face-off percentage, all indicated that he could perform at both ends of the ice. Adam was a VHLM and VHL veteran, who changed teams and positions during his career. In what was regarded as his final VHL season before finding himself as a free agent, Adam skated with the New York Americans, collecting 7 goals and 23 assists for 30 points, a +15 with 32 penalty minutes and 58 hits. The once highly regarded draft pick entered his VHL career with high aspirations of becoming the next big thing. Sadly, none of that transpired and Adam was relegated to just scraping along and fitting in wherever he was asked to. It was somewhat of a waste of what was supposed to be a very productive career.

In next week’s segment, we will continue to analyze the province of Quebec and those apart of the VHLM.

Content: 3/3 - Another great installment of Across A Nation. Interesting to see that Quebec hasn't really produced many notable VHL/VHLMers. Perhaps after reading this, someone will try to change that!

Grammar: 2/2 - Didn't find anything. Great work.

Appearance: 1/1 - Professional as always.

Overall: 6/6

Final: 6/6
