Oskar Lagesson, a Swedish born defenseman hailing for Gothenburg missed out of the Season 68 VHLM Entry Draft as his eligibility was not received in time and rather, he became a free agent. Lagesson was a highly sought after commodity, receiving no less than nine free agent offers from VHLM franchises. Oskar is pegged to be a two-way defenseman with strong skating skills, the ability to deliver bone crushing body checks, a high level of hockey IQ, great defensive instincts and a bomb of a shot from the point. Once he develops, Lagesson should be able to quarterback any powerplay as well as be a go-to go on the back end of the penalty kill. This type of player is rare to find and that is probably why so many clubs were interested in his services. In the end, Oskar chose to sign with the San Diego Mariners and was promised second pairing minutes along with time on the PP and possibly PK minutes as well. He has yet to suit up for a game for the Mariners but is slated to make his debut rather soon as he caught a flight from his home to Gothenburg to San Diego. We will keep an eye on this youngster to see how he develops throughout the season and attempt to predict where he will be drafted in the Season 69 VHL Entry Draft.
