Theme Week: Single Season Goal Leaders

Greatness is a title many strive to achieve yet only a handful ever will. Today we look back at the first Ten seasons of the Victory Hockey League. More importantly we are looking at a group of players in the timeframe who did something amazing, set single season Goal records. In the top Twenty if that list Seven people from Seasons One through Ten hold Thirteen out if Twenty spots on that List. The highest number ever reached in Victory Hockey League recorded History is Eighty-Nine goals. This was Achieved in Season Five by arguably the best to ever do it Scotty Campbell.

 

Unsurprisingly Scotty holds six if those Thirteen Positions. The most by any player by a fair margin. In second place was Eighty-Seven goals again by Scotty Campbell in Season Four. In third we saw a break from the Normality as originally Brett Slobodzian held the third spot with Seventy-Nine goals in the Inaugural Season.. Scotty would tie that just the very next season.

 

Looking at the list it would seem that the first Ten seasons had produced some of the best players in History for Single Season goals.. 

It is undeniable that Scotty Campbell will go down in history as the single greatest player in League history.. but one must ask the question of why is Thirteen of the top Twenty held by players from the first Ten seasons? I think the main reason was, it was the main core of players for the first Ten Seasons, not to many new faces challenging the older players. So the best kept getting Better with only better players Chasing. The Victory Hockey League obviously was growing in size but not grow by the Standard it needed to Alter the numbers to dramatically.

 

Also back then the Rules where different the players where faster and more loose as they where focused on putting on a great product to ensure the Future of the League. Many speculate that there where looser rules is what caused the high numbers. Numbers that have not really been touched in close to Thirty Seasons. The closest any Recent players came to the Single Season Goals record where two players Seven Seasons ago. 

 

Podrick Cast is Sixth Overall but tied for Third with a whopping Seventy-Nine goals back in Season Sixty-Two. The second player to crack the top Ten was none other that Matt Thompson also in Season Sixty-Two. He sits Eighth Overall but tied for Seventh with Seventy-Two goals. So there have been flashes of Brilliance from the new batches and the changes the new Commissioners have made seems to be etching into the top spots. With new Rules and player health programs making players play longer at high levels it’s only a matter of time before we see some changes on this list. So I guess the question now should be who will be the first player in League history to crack the Illustrious Ninety Goal Season and cement themselves in the Halls of Legend?
