RIGA, Latvia  - When trade deadline came around and the only move in the whole league saw Malcom Spud and Kameron Taylor head to the Riga Reign, there were mixed feelings about the trade. Some said, "it's too soon," for Riga to compete as they are too young. Others said the price they paid was, "far too much." Well after having these players for just over 20 games, I think it's easy to say that fans and management have to be happy so far.

The rate at these two produced for the last stretch of the season was outstanding and really helped catapult the Reign into 2nd in the European Conference and giving them home ice advantage in the first round. Taylor put up 20 goals in 21 games to lead the entire league in goals and added 17 assists to boot. Spud had 10 goals and 21 assists to his already 66 points in Cologne, good for 2nd in defenseman scoring in the whole league.

Of course it's all about what happens in the post-season which start tonight, but so far you've got to say that things are looking good from the trade.
