Houston Bulls Draft Recap Part 1

There was definitely no definitive player going into the draft that everyone thought would go first overall. There was some question marks on some certain guys and it all depended on team needs, and what direction that team was deciding to go in. As the Bulls staff walked up to the podium the excitement around the building was building, and with no hesitation the Bulls picked Erik Killinger with the number one overall selection. It wasn’t a huge surprise to anyone, that the Bulls decided to go with a forward with the first pick. After this pick everyone knew that this what the year that the Bulls were going all in. Last season Erik only played 24 games with the Saskatoon Wild, but managed to 2 goals and 8 assists for a total of 8 points. Along with that he has a very impressive plus minus of +13, which was very good for a player that is new to the league. Expect those point totals to be a lot different for Erik this year, as he will be one if not the most offensively capable player in this years draft class. He will be the workhorse for the Bulls, and will play some serious minutes.

With the second overall overall pick the Bulls decided to address their goaltending needs by selecting, Stone Wolski. In the last 10 season there has been a fair amount of goaltenders to go through this league, but Wolski is one of the best to ever enter this league. Last season with Mexico City, he had 11 wins in 12 games which is almost unheard of for a new goalie. People are already saying that he will be the goaltender of the league for VHLM, and I don’t expect them to be wrong. If the bulls are able to get a good enough defence in front of Wolski they will be very dangerous this season. Now that the Bulls had selected with the two first picks in the draft it was time for the San Diego Marlins to select third overall, and they went with goalscoring centre man Kyl Oferson.

Shortly after the third pick it was the Bulls on the clock again to make the fourth overall selection. They did what everyone was expecting after taking a forward and goalie, and went his shutdown defence man, Hugh Jass. They now had three of the best positional players in this draft and they were starting to look very scary. The massive defence man played for Houston last year, and had 27 points in 23 games. He is a big shut down guy, but as you can see he isn’t scared to get on the score sheet as well. This year he will be the catalyst from the back end, and will determine how far this team really goes into the playoffs.

Next week we will look at the second half on the bulls draft.
