Willy "Eric Datsyuk Lindros" Myers - Junior Review , Russia2OHL2VHLM

Recommended Posts

It is official that one of most dazzling talents in the S76 VHLM Draft pool has signed accepted an offer from @doomsday to get on the Ice before the draft. Willy spent his junior seasons where he wore the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds red and white, and if you know the hound the black jerseys too 😉 . Willy Myers, the slick Russian whom the 'Hounds gambled on trying to coax to Northern Ontario when they selected him in the CHL import draft last may, shortly after the draft that day it was confirmed via twitter he has a visa that will allow him to play to Canada/USA.

It's a coup for the short-staffed Greyhounds and quite possibly the entire Ontario Hockey League, which can use some star power. Willy's arrival will mean a team that was coming off a ninth-place finish in its conference , having two-time tournament all-star from World Under-17 Challenge and last years tournaments MVP for team Russian assistant captain Willy Myers. (Willy has since been unable to stop tweeting that he will begin trekking toward  the west coast Tonight.)

With great news it has been announced tonight that Willy Myers will be playing in the VHML during the S75 season for SSK. @doomsday received the great news today that @WillyMyers was able to renew his Visa. We are now is the process of booking travel for him to Saskatoon! — Saskatoon Wild Travel Planners December 12 2020

Willy Myers is one to watch once he gets acclimatized to the pace and grind of the OHL. The 6-foot-8 speedmeister could be a treat to watch regardless of what numbers he puts up in prairies, he is agile and able to change speeds on top of being straight-line fast. As far as the draft goes, being 6-foot-8 makes him a tough player to rate since it can never be fully anticipated which NHL team will take the chance on a questionable physical prospect.

“His size has scared some scouts, including NHL Central Scouting, which didn’t list him on its watch list. Don’t be fooled. Willy Myers is a special player with elite skating and elite puck skills. He scored 19 goals in the Russian U20 league last year at age 16. That’s not easy to do. Additionally, Myers was dominant against his own age group in international competition despite his unorthodox stature. A big year in the VHLM could go a long way to garnering more attention.”- Former Coach in Russia

Where Will He End Up In June:

If a team is in need of an electrifying, flashy, quick, player, Myers can find himself chosen in the 2nd round, just based on skill.  However, it’s more likely that he will be a 3rd or 4th round selection.- VSN Scout.
