The Jack Reilly Trophy is awarded annually to the top General Manager of the VHLM! To win this trophy is a lot more than just fielding a good team on the ice, as you have to be a smart negotiator in trades, adapt to an ever evolving league and maintain multiple players progression and success while trying to win the Founder’s Cup each season! VHLM General Managers provide a significant amount of the backbone that makes up the VHL, as most every player that’s played in the VHL had to first go through the VHLM and learn from their GM’s how to make builds and have successful careers! Tonight, we recognize those who went above and beyond for their teams and players!

    AJW - Houston Bulls

AJ has consistently built strong teams who can make Cinderella runs for the Cup, and it’s no surprise that the Bulls GM is once again in consideration for the Jack Reilly Trophy!

    Tetricide - Miami Marauders

In his last season as Miami’s GM before moving onto Prague, Tet fielded a very strong team which kept every team they went up against on their toes. A legend in the VHLM GMing community whose presence will be greatly missed moving forward!

    McLovin - Las Vegas Aces

After building a team consisting mostly of his own referrals, the Aces have been near the top of the VHLM for a few seasons now both in standings and their potent offense, and made multiple strong pushes into the postseason!

    Grape - Ottawa Lynx

Despite not having the best regular season in S92, Grape was a very active general manager this season, constantly moving pieces and ensuring his team can remain competitive long term! Because of his work, Ottawa is enjoying a very deep draft they can take advantage of today!

Onto our final trophy presentation of the night, we have the Mitch Higgins Trophy, awarded to the player voted to be most valuable to their team in the VHLM regular season! To be nominated for this award is a significant achievement by itself, so let’s take a look at the nominees for this very prestigious award!

    Jorgen Lovstrom (PHI) - 48-8-4, .918SV%, 2.34 GAA, 3 SO

To nobody’s surprise, Jorgen Lovstrom is once again nominated for an MVP award! Having already been voted for best goalie and playoff MVP, it only makes sense Lovstrom is here for the big one!

    Bric Sheithaus (LVA) - 15 G, 81 A, 96 P,+35, 86 PIM, 237 HIT, 149 SB

After the season he had and awards he took home today, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he is here in this category either. Dominating teams as much as he did at the level he was is an incredible feat, and very deserving of an MVP nomination!

    Jean-Pierre Devote (SDM) - 52 G, 54 A,106 P, +15, 54 PIM, 139 HIT, 58 SB

A familiar trend appears as Jean-Pierre Devote is here once again after coming off winning the most goals and best two-way forward awards, Jean-Pierre is making himself a household name tonight!

    Aanarsi Reingaard (HFX) - 46 G, 45 A,91 P, -18, 41 PIM, 134 HIT, 45 SB

The only nominee of this award that hasn’t won a previous award tonight, Aanarsi Reingaard was the saving grace of a struggling Halifax 21st, and never quit each and every game they played!

The final vote is here, and the winner of the Mitch Higgins Trophy for MVP of the VHLM goes to…

The Ryan Sullivan Trophy is awarded to the top defenseman in the VHLM! Being the best of this position has proven to be a greater task than usual as of late, so to be nominated in this award is quite the achievement by itself! Here are your S92 nominees for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy!

    Bric Sheithaus (LVA) - 15 G, 81 A, 96 P,+35, 86 PIM, 237 HIT, 149 SB

When you’re a defenseman, numbers like Bric Sheithaus put up are impressive as is, but to also almost eclipse 100 points just for good measure? A truly remarkable two-way performance by the Aces D-man!

    Enn Jinn (PHI) - 21 G, 68 A, 89 P, +43, 86 PIM, 138 HIT, 128 SB

A critical piece of the Reaper’s Cup run this season, Enn Jinn did everything his team needed and more with a dominating 200 foot game! A +43 in the plus/minus category is always a pretty number to see from a defenseman, too!

    Free Gorlab (MEX) - 30 G, 48 A, 78 P,+17, 86 PIM, 205 HIT, 143 SB

The only defenseman on this list to score 30 goals, Free Gorlab’s offensive ability propelled him and his team up the score sheets and standings, and was able to match that an incredibly dominant physical game, putting up over 200 hits!

    Benjamin Abenduct (HOU) - 23 G, 58 A,81 P, +13, 78 PIM, 170 HIT, 100 SB

Benjamin Abenduct did everything the Houston Bulls could’ve asked of him and more, being third in defenseman scoring having only 68 games played with over a point per game performance in the regular season, special teams play and physical game considered, Abenduct was absolutely a lethal player across the board, and our final nominee for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy!

The Benoit Devereux Trophy is awarded to the top goaltender in the VHLM, and we have some truly elite goaltenders in this nominee list. As the league’s mentality has shifted to being more offensively minded, these goalies were above and beyond in shutting down the tough competition and carrying their teams to convincing wins. Let’s take a look at the nominees for the Benoit Devereux!

    Jorgen Lovstrom (PHI) - 48-8-4, .918SV%, 2.34 GAA, 3 SO

With truly eye-watering stats like these, it’s no wonder Jorgen Lovestrom finds himself in yet another award category. Keeping the losses under double digits, especially with the aforementioned offenses Jorgen had to face in the regular season, makes this nomination no surprise to anybody!

    Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen (MEX)- 39-24-4, .905 SV%, 2.63 GAA, 1 SO

Mexico City’s strong third place in the standings this season is in large part to the great goaltending provided to them by Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen. With the Kings having won 39 of the 41 wins they achieved this season with Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen in net, his play was of extreme value to the Kings!

    Samuel Wazinski (SDM) - 35-22-7, .904SV%, 2.91 GAA, 2 SO

Samuel Wazinski in goal for San Diego provided them with a much needed failsafe between the pipes, and Wazinski came through for them day in and day out, putting up very strong numbers and being our final nominee for the Benoit Devereux Trophy!

The Ethan Osborne Trophy is awarded annually to the player who scores the most points in the VHLM! This season had 5 players who eclipsed the 100 point marker, but two players from Ottawa were able to feed off each other's skill and outshined the rest of the league with 111 points each! Wayne Shotzky and Ivan Ivanov were threats all season, and dominated teams in their zone with goal scoring and playmaking abilities both 5 on 5, as well as on the powerplay and even the penalty kill. When you combine for over 200 points, 800 shots and 120 assists, it’s no wonder that this trophy is being awarded to both of these elite players!

Congratulations to Wayne Shotzky and Ivan Ivanov, the winners of the Ethan Osborne Trophy for S92!

The Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy is awarded to the player that leads the VHLM in assists! Being crowned the best playmaker of the season is a great achievement, but one player stands out far above the rest in this regard! While most of the leaders in the category provided their teams with 50-60 assists, Bric Sheithaus of the Las Vegas Aces assisted in an incredible 81 goals scored by his teammates! This feat is incredible as it is, but as a defenseman who in previous seasons had not been known for offensive prowess, makes this achievement that much significant for the young defenseman!

The Skylar Rift Trophy is awarded annually to the player voted to be deemed the most valuable player during the VHLM Playoffs! There were many fantastic performances during the playoffs this season, and without further ado, here are the nominees for the Skylar Rift Trophy:

    Elle Aura Ashe (LVA) - 14 GP, 10 G, 11A, 21 P, +5, 19 PIM, 31 HIT, 3 SB

Elle Aura Ashe was completely dominating the competition during the regular season, ending S92 with a combined 121 points in both the playoffs and regular season. A lethal player on both ends of the ice, Elle Aura Ashe is our first nominee for the Skylar Rift Trophy!

    Magni Jinn (PHI) - 4 G, 15 A, 19 P, +9,12 PIM, 26 HIT, 22 SB

A complete two-way defenseman, Magni Jinn shut down the opposing teams offenses day in and day out, and had the offensive prowess to match. With 22 shots blocked, 26 hits and an over point per game performance in the playoffs, it’s no wonder Magni Jinn is in the running!

    Jorgen Lovstrom (PHI) - 16 GP, 12-4-0,.920 SV%, 2.13 GAA, 1 SO

A team thrives or dies on the back of their goaltending, and the Philadelphia Reapers certainly thrived with the goaltending delivered by Jorgen Lovstrom. With a .920 SV% and 2.13 GAA, teams struggled mightily to score against him, and was a critical piece of the Reapers Founder’s Cup run!

    Yermolai Nabokov (PHI) - 16 GP, 9 G,13 A, 22 P, +7, 24 PIM, 42 HIT, 7 SB

When you need a goal desperately, you call Yermolai Nabokov. With 125 combined points in the regular season and playoffs, including 13 assists and 42 hits in the playoffs alone, Yermolai Nabokov was a lethal two-way threat on the wing for the Reapers, and provided a great deal of skill to the Reaper’s special teams!

VSN Presents: S92 World Junior Championship Roster Predictions!

Welcome to yet another VSN presentation of the World Junior Championship! We’re in the S92 edition today, and we have quite a bit to cover! The rosters for the S92 WJC have yet to be publicly announced, so in this edition of VSN, we’re gonna predict what each roster might look like, and how they’ll perform in the Round Robin and Medal rounds! Without further ado, let’s take a look at what these teams may look like in a few days!

    🇪🇺 Team Europe: 🇪🇺

Starting out with arguably the strongest team in the WJC once more, we have Team Europe. The biggest things out the gate that I noticed of this team is their remarkably strong defense and goaltending. Of the top eligible players for Team Europe, 5 out of the top 7 players are either defensemen or goalies, and are all near or at the 400 TPA mark in terms of their earnings. With this in mind, Team Europe is projected by VSN to absolutely shut down games, and be able to put up some decent number of goals offensively too. Adi Dassler @BOOM, Kimi Raikkonen @mattyIceman & Nico Belique @Syzygy headline the forward core, and are all also high earning forwards with heaps of skill on both ends of the ice!

All things considered, Team Europe is looking incredibly strong this WJC, and once more are projected to win the World Junior Championship! As we all know though, upsets have happened in the past, and Team Europe’s worst enemy may be themselves in the Medal Round as what happened in last season's WJC. With that in mind however, they have everything to prove this season's tournament, that last season was just a fluke and they’re ready to return to the throne of the World Juniors. Considering they fixed the biggest issue that plagued last season's team in terms of their depth and goaltending woes, anything short of a Gold will be a massive disappointment to everyone in Team Europe's system. Time will tell what ends up happening in a few days!

    🇨🇦 Team Canada: 🇨🇦

After a very disappointing end to last season's WJC, Canada has returned with a vengeance and looks to prove all the doubters wrong this season! Canada wants to at least win a game this season, and with the look of their projected roster, I expect them to win a lot more than just one!. With an incredibly strong first forward line in Isaac mclflopper @sportexperts show, Eno Velvson @Nykonax, and Bryce Woodworth @SirRupertBarnes headlining, the offense is going to be potent to say the least! Down the depth chart, they have a very strong center core, and will be leaned on rather heavily in special teams play. Beyond that, a good goalie in Toddly Bobbly @ToddlyBobbly and other wingers considered, Canada this season is going to be very offensively minded, and will be expected to put up a significant number of goals against weaker teams defensemen.

The only thing concerning this roster is the severe lack of elite Canadian defensemen present in their eligibility lists, which means they’ll either have to work their way down the list to find their own defensemen, or pick from other teams in the tournament. Either way, it’s not an ideal situation by any means for Team Canada, and will likely suffer in the scoresheet for it. Expect very high scoring games in which Team Canada takes part in on both ends of the ice. There’s at least one team like this each World Juniors, so Team Canada games are going to be very entertaining to watch happen this season! Team Canada is also VSN’s dark horse candidate for the World Junior Championship as their offense against Team Europe’s defense is going to be very interesting, and I personally will be very invested in those games myself!

    🌍 Team World: 🌍

Onto the halfway point of our coverage, we have the very interesting Team World! A similar situation to Team Europe, they bolster a remarkably strong goaltending situation. With arguably the best goaltender in the tournament between the pipes in Pipo Popa @npuBeT, and projected VHLM Playoff MVP in Jorgen Lovstrom @Pifferfish backing him up, Team World will likely have at least a few games stolen by their goalies. Moving past that, Theo Allard @InstantRockstar and Behrens Minion @UnknownMinion headlining the forward core as near top earners, Team World has a great chance at proving to be a bit of a Cinderella story in the making, and would certainly shake up the WJC dynamic if they ended up going all the way!

As with Team Canada, the depth might be the only thing holding them back from going rather deep into the Medal Round, but they have excellent pieces in key roles that makes the problem potentially void. A good goaltender duo in these kinds of tournaments usually makes or breaks a run, and Team World has everything they need in that regard to stay competitive. Whether the lack of All-Star caliber defensemen or depth proves to be a factor is yet to be seen, but Team World is going to be a very interesting team to watch in this tournament indeed. We shall certainly see what the future holds for them when the puck drops in a few days!

    🇺🇸 Team USA: 🇺🇸

Nearing the end of our coverage, we have Team USA! This is a very interesting team in that they aren’t necessarily the best team in the tournament, but definitely not the worst. They have an incredibly strong first forward line similar to Team Canada, and duels between these two lines in historic rivalry games is going to be a treat to watch. George Richmond @badcolethetitan, Logan Ninefingers @Scurvy and Riley Martin @Smarch are all maxed out earners and are going to be on fire in this tournament offensively speaking. Looking past that line, the depth certainly falls off in terms of pure skill, but that doesn’t discount the value that these players can bring to Team USA. Bric Sheithaus @Oldhead91 especially, despite only being at 200 TPA, put up 96 points last season with Las Vegas, and was a menace on defense with 237 hits on his stat sheet. With this MVP performance considered, he very well makes up for the TPA difference with pure grit and fortitude against the other teams.

Other players on this roster are excellent in their own regards too, as most of the projected players for Team USA’s defense are also near or at that 200 TPA marker, and will provide much needed VHLM All-Star caliber play to the American’s hopes to make a deep run. The only thing that may hamper this effort is their lack of goaltending depth compared to other teams. As mentioned previously, goalies more times than not make or break a run, but if Connor Hellebuych @HockeyFan4Life can pull out all the stops and put up strong games, Team USA very much has the capacity to upset a few teams and light up the tournament in the scoresheet!

    🇯🇵 Team Asia: 🇯🇵

Onto the final team of our list, we have Team Asia. It’s not looking good for Asia as it stands, just at face value compared to the other team's potential players. The highest rated player on Team Asia’s potential players would be Petit Hughie @Sen at 262 TPA. While this is a serviceable and good level to be at in terms of the competition, leaning on him to carry the team is going to hurt their efforts in remaining competitive. The only other defenseman on this list is Vladimir Kozlov @vladbatton, and he’s at 199 TPA. This situation could be a bit of a blessing in disguise however, as Team Asia might be able to make up the difference competitively by selecting defensemen from Team Europe or World as they have good depth in those positions.

Offensively, they are in a similar rut, both in terms of high TPA earners and in lack of people to actually fill the positions themselves. The team is likely going to look like a mish mash of players from all the other teams in the tournament, so it’s a bit impossible to predict who will make the final roster when they get announced soon. With how deep some teams are in their depths however, Asia might be able to capitalize on this and select them for their own roster, and potentially upset teams with their own players. While Asia has great potential to play spoiler in these regards, expecting a very deep run from them would be ill-advised.

That concludes today’s edition of VSN’s coverage of the S92 WJC! We look forward to seeing all the teams final rosters, and hope you enjoyed reading this article on the World Juniors! We’ll see you next time when we cover the Round Robin! For VSN, this is Marcus Svedberg, signing off!

McLovin got a reaction from Thunder in Las Vegas Aces Retire Stinky's #11
The jersey number of Stinky @taylorherd is being retired by the Las Vegas Aces. Stinky is the All-Time Aces record holder for:

    Goals - 144
    Points - 306
    Game Winning Goals - 27
    Shots on Goal - 1261

Stinky was the greatest goal scorer in Aces history, shattering records set decades before his arrival in Las Vegas. His leadership on and off the ice will be a quality greatly missed in Las Vegas, but his legacy will be remembered forever in the rafters of Juan Ceson Arena. A career Ace, Las Vegas will always remember the great runs we went on with Stinky at the helm of it all, and the team will never be able to replace the qualities Stinky brought to the team and fans. It's an honor of mine to be hoisting this jersey number into our rafters,

    Thank you, Stinky

McLovin reacted to ace_five_ in VHLM pre-draft GM interview
With the VHLM draft quickly approaching, I spoke with the VHLM GMs and asked them a few questions about their thoughts and goals for the future.

    1. What are your goals for the upcoming draft, and the season beyond?

Miami’s GM @Ricer13 is looking for long-term success. To do that he is looking to build his asset pool to gain future assets. With nine picks in the draft, four being in the first two rounds, there will be plenty of assets to work with.

@Dadam30, GM of the Saskatoon Wild, hopes to put together a contending team this season. They are poised for the future as well, with plenty of draft picks to work with. With 10 picks in the S93 draft, there is plenty of capital for both the present and the future.

The San Diego Marlins would love to draft players who are active and willing to learn. GM @Mysterious_Fish is looking for someone who can contribute in the locker room as well as on the ice, with a willingness to develop being a key to their success. The Marlins only have one early round pick and five total, so it seems development for the future is the key goal going forward.

@Grape's Ottawa Lynx want to compete now. They have 12 total picks in the upcoming draft and are looking to make some splashes that will help this season and extend beyond S93. The goal for the Lynx is to cultivate a consistent competitive mindset for seasons to come.

S93 is GM @JCarson first draft as Mexico City King’s GM. He told me that his goal for the season is to build a balanced team in the draft. He wants to be able to compete early on, but also be developed to be stronger in the playoffs. Mexico City holds a pick in each of the seven rounds of the draft so they can most certainly build a well-balanced team with those options.

For GM @LucyXpher and the Halifax 21st the goal is simple, use their early picks (two first rounders and two seconds, nine total) to select players who can play at the top of the lineup now. Halifax is looking for players that are reliable to compete for the full 72-game schedule but is hoping to find some late round talent with potential that can be fostered for seasons to come. They are not only looking for the obvious talent but also the diamonds in the rough who are really pushing to make a name for themselves in their early career.

The Mississauga Hounds GM @Nathan_8's goal in the draft is simple: build a good team with the picks available. There is potential to also move down in order to grab more picks. He believes with the draft capital at his disposal he will be able to do just that.

After a heartbreaking loss in the finals, @McLovin and the Las Vegas Aces are gearing up for a long and hard rebuild. With more later picks than early ones, the Aces will have to get lucky with a gem in the later rounds to kickstart the rebuild process.

Next is last season's Founder's Cup champs, the Philadelphia Reapers. GM @Lemorse7 is planning on making a splash in the draft to keep the Reapers' winning ways going. Although they only have five total picks, they have one in each of the first two rounds and have retained three players from last season so it isn't totally out of the question. Seeing as they need a decent goalie to make sure that happens, I expect a possible focus on doing just that.

Last but certainly not least, GM @AJW with the Huston Bulls. He believes the success of a team is built from within. With so much uncertainty throughout the VHLM season, the Bulls look for a winning mentality over pure skill. If the players they draft are active and willing to put the work in, he thinks anyone can come out as a champion. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly) AJW was quoted saying "Rebuilding/waiting for the future is BORING!!!!", so I think it's safe to say he's planning for the present above all else.

    2. Who do you think will be the #1 pick and why?

It seems the GMs of the VHLM don’t have a consensus pick for #1 in the draft. Some names were thrown around, but they all seem equally likely to be picked first overall. Of the names mentioned, there were:

Felicia Hardy @JCarson - There was a gut feeling behind Hardy being the first pick in the draft. The big defenceman played 20 games with San Diego last season, shelling out 16 hits and blocking 28 shots.

Tyler Lawson @Nyx - If he chooses to stay in the VHLM, Lawson is one of, if not the best centre in the draft. He has a big shot and “high offensive upside” as quoted by one GM. A point-per-game player last season with 56 points in 56 games, any team would be ecstatic to have the offensive prowess of Lawson.

Jillian Woods @jacobcarson877 - Jillian Woods is one of the only players remaining in the VHLM who has 200 TPA. A two-way defenceman, Woods can be effective at both ends of the ice.

    3. What do you look for in a potential draft pick? What are your intangibles?

What the GMs are looking for in a potential draft pick is fairly consistent across the board. First and foremost, activity in the forums and on the Discord is completely necessary. They recognize that without this, there is little to no improvement. Staying active will show the GMs that you’re willing to put the work in to earn that precious TPE every week. Most are compassionate, understanding there is a world outside of the VHL that takes priority, but when building a team to win, activity is the highest indicator of an up-and-coming star.
The next most important piece of the puzzle seems to be attitude. GMs want to see that a potential draft pick can fit in with their team in the locker room. The goal ultimately is to have fun and create an atmosphere that encourages that. Players that exude that energy are generally gravitated toward because they improve the experience for the others around them as well. While the process to earn the TPE to be a star can be a long one, players who understand that and embrace it will catch the eye of GMs throughout each of the leagues.
Lastly, what players do to earn TPE and how they go about it is significant to the GMs that I spoke to. They want to see a variety of point tasks attempted to see that all avenues are being used to improve their players. A player who participates in trivia and press conferences each week is much more valuable to a GM than one who ignores them or completes them sporadically. It is understood that every player doesn’t inherently know how to do everything on arrival in the VHL, but it is recognized when an attempt is being made to take the initiative and learn. This tends to be a good indicator of what they’ll become early on in their career.
Overall, this is shaping up to be an exciting draft! I had multiple people tell me how deep it is and how likely it may be to find a diamond in the later rounds. For all the draft hopefuls, whether you’re the first pick or the last, keeping up with your point tasks and staying active will most certainly make a name for yourself quickly in this league. Even if you can’t tell, the GMs are keeping a close eye on everyone and making very informed decisions, so keep up the good work!

EDIT: I would like to source that I took some of my research from @Grape's article overviewing each team leading up to the draft so I'd like to give him credit:

Good luck to all the players and GMs participating in the S93 VHLM draft!
