Nick Robertson, Rasmus Sandin and Mikko Kokkonen want World Junior gold - Pension Plan Puppets

What a great week it has been for Tom Eagles. First he competed in his first World Junior Championship representing Team Europe. It was a great experience for the VHL Sophmore to get to play with and against some of the best young talent in the VHL.

The tournament went very well for Tom and Europe as they captured gold. This adds to Tom’s Trophy case who has also won the Founders cup with Philadelphia in Season 75.

Tom had a pretty good round robin as he finished with 8 points, 40 hits and 24 shots blocked. He was paired on the first line and was able to contribute on both ends of the ice to help Team Europe finish second in the round robin standings, which helped them skip the quarter finals and put them in the semi finals right off the bat.

In the Semi Finals and Finals, while Tom did not put up any points, he contributed significantly on the defensive end by blocking 2 crucial shots in the final game.

“ It was a great feeling winning the WJC, its always an exciting tournament and I am proud of the team for taking home the gold” Said Tom “ It was a great experience and this will definitely help my growth in the game. I learned a lot from this tournament and from my teammates!”

Once the tournament finished up, the regular season of the VHL was just around the corner. This was Tom’s second year in the VHL and with Calgary. While Calgary is in rebuild mode, Tom has had a good start to the season.

So far in 3 games, Tom Eagles has 6 points, 6 hits and 12SB. With his 6 points he is currently tied for first in scoring on the Wranglers and also puts him tied for 3rd in VHL Defenseman. This has been a solid start and shows that his hard off-season training was paying off.

Even more impressive, he is doing this all from the 2nd pairing with Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr who also has 6 points.

“It has been great pairing up with Rolf to start the season. He is a top notch player and has really been proving his game as a rookie. “ Says Tom “ I was in his position last season and I know the pressures that come with being a rookie in the VHL but we have started to build our chemistry and have been playing pretty well together”

When asked if he will get some 1st pairing minutes Tom responded with:

" That is up to the GM, I have full trust in him to select the best lineup that will help the team win. I have no issues with my playing time right now and myself and Rolf have been playing really well together"

Calgary has rolled out to a 1-2 start which is on par with the season expectations. What we are excited to see is if Tom can continue his team leading scoring and how he will play as the season goes along. Last season, Tom, also got off to a hot start but then seemed to slow down halfway through the season. What Calgary is hoping is that Tom can keep this up and stay more consistent for the whole season.

With how Tom has been playing in the WJC and the first 3 games, we think he will continue to put up good numbers for Calgary.
