As the Bears got a few days off on the schedule and had just visited Chicago, I decided to do something special. I was heading to my hometown for the first time in a long while to see my family.

It was a complete surprise, as my parents didn't know until they opened the door that their VHLer son has come home. It was such a joyous reaction and it brought even this Rose to tears. Their little one was finally home, and we made the most of it.

I began talking to them about my escapades across the VHL, and they would tell me all the things I've missed since we last been together. It was good timing too, as my grandfather was moving very soon, so I was able to see him before he moved quite far away.

Being back home is always such a unique feeling. Everything feels so familiar, but also so different. I myself always keep pointing out everything that has changed as it shows how long I've been away.

After a couple days, though, I needed to get back to work, and get back to my Seattle family. Home will always be there for you, and everyone is so proud of me. I hope that next time I see them, I can make them prouder by bringing some special cargo in the form of the Continental Cup.
