Locker cleanout was today for the Riga Reign after a failure to qualify for the Season 77 VHL playoffs. Riga missed out of the playoffs by two points. Only 1 point would have missed the playoffs too since Malmo Nighthawks held the tie-break for overall wins with 31 vs a theoretical 30 for Riga. In their final 4 games of the season, of which they needed to win all 4, only won 3. The heartbreaking defeat to Warsaw was the final straw to break before the collapse of the Riga playoff hopes.

The mood in the locker room was very somber. No one was really talking and it was mostly interpersonal conversations. The group said their final goodbyes for the season and held a little ceremony for Ray Sheilds congratulating him on an amazing VHL career before he heads off to retirement. The offseason brings many questions for the Riga squad with a majority of its players needing contracts. We shall see how the squad forms during the offseason.
