Welcome folks, this is Chris Hansen. The last time we spoke with Anze Miklavz was just before he began his S77 season with the Mexico City Kings. At the time he was low on the most scouts’ radar, but after a stand out season, he has emerged as one of the most exciting players in this draft class. During the eve of the S78 Entry Draft, we caught up with the Slovenian Sniper via Zoom call. The interview is transcribed below:

CH: Anze, you came out of nowhere to become a highly touted prospect. Based on your season with the Kings, what do you think contributed the most to your success?

AZ: Well obviously I knew how good I was from the start. I took a hiatus a couple years ago and knew that my draft stock was going to plummet because of that. Honestly, I know it was a tough year in the standings, but the Kings were a huge help to my development. I played a lot of minutes this year, which allowed me to adjust to the style of hockey.

CH: I understand that you are in both drafts this season, VHL and VHLM. Have you decided where you want to play yet?

AZ: No, I haven’t and to be honest that totally depends on where I go. I don’t really want to play in the VHL if my minutes will be heavily limited, but also don’t want to hit a development wall in the VHLM. There will definitely need to be discussion with both GMs.

CH: What type of player is the team who drafts Anze Miklavz getting?

AZ: A scoring winger that is not selfish and can play in all situations.

CH: Have many teams contacted you leading up to the draft? Do you have an idea of where you’re going?

AZ: A handful of VHL GMs, and a couple VHLM GMs have reached out. It sounds like there’s a need for wingers in this draft.  I don’t want to get my hopes too high, but I think there’s a good chance I go in the first round.

CH: Any preferred destinations?

AZ:  Not really, I just want to play and will be happy wherever I’m picked. I’d like to have a chill locker room to be honest.

CH: Thanks, Anze. Good luck in the draft!

AZ: Thanks.
