Sven in pregame warmups with the Yukon Rush

Sven Eightnine is a lot like you and I, except, well he's stronger, faster, and straight up terrifying. The first thing you'll notice suiting up against young Sven is how absolutely gigantic he is at the blue line, standing a broad 6'5" 240, there aren't many defensemen who can lay the body like Sven, but that's not all. In addition to being a defensive presence on the blue line, Sven has an absolute rocket of a slap shot that somehow always manages to find its way into the back of the net... but let's back up a little bit and talk on how Sven got here.

Born in Copenhagen to a family of Dentists, Sven always seemed to zig when everyone else zagged. Sven first learned how to skate at age 7 on a frozen pond in his family's backyard, and even though he was always a little big and doofy, he skated with the grace of Michele Kwan, but the intensity of a Grizzly Bear. Even though they had both treated their fair share of knocked out teeth, Sven's parents really had no choice but to get him into hockey at a young age, and that's just where it all started.

From there Sven quickly earned his place on Finland's U18 team, where he was spotted as one of the top prospects in all of Scandinavia. While you might qualify a giant defenseman's role as minimal, everyone always knew when Sven was on the ice. If you were on the ice, he wanted to hit you, and make sure you weren't quick to get up. This is when people started to realize that not just the "Six" on the ice should be afraid of Sven, anyone with the puck needs to keep their head on a swivel.

After his team's loss in the bronze medal round of the U18 world cup, Sven was approached by a few scouts from the VHLM, who were interested in signing Sven to their developmental league, where they promised he could get playing time right away, develop his game, and eventually be drafted into the prestigious VHL. Of all of these scouts, one from the Yukon Rush, known only as "Juice", was able to convince Sven to make the trip over the pond to join their league. Sven had just come off of a heartbreaking loss in the U18 world cup, and Yukon knew about winning. Looking to get the monkey off his back, Sven packed up his bag, said goodbye to his family, and hopped on a red eye bound for Yukon, where he hoped to find more than potatoes in his next chapter.
