ROOKIE745 610
Been a while since I've done a before and since, I mean I've only done one so far but that's about to change. I've decided that the next team or teams if you will that I will be looking at is the season 64 and 65 Toronto Legion. The franchise won back to back in S64 and 64 and at first glance these rosters appear quite similar, lets list rosters to see just how many player were in both cup runs. (Bots are not included) S64 Toronto Legion roster: S65 Toronto Legion roster: Forwards: Adam Warlock Adam Warlock Oyorra Arroyo Oyorra Arroyo Evan R. Lawson Evan R. Lawson Chace Trepanier Chace Trepanier Sebastian Ironside The Charm Lavar Ball Joey Boucher Mikhali Vega Defense: Tzuyu Tzuyu Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette Lew Bronstein Johannes Vihjalmsson Boner Robert Malenko Goalie(s): Norris Stopko Johnny Havenk Carison JB Rift four forwards, and three defense-men were in both championship runs. The season 65 roster is a bit bigger with one extra forward and goalie although Rift only saw one game. to shake things up a bit how about we look at the overlapping players first? That's six total players and we'll look at forwards first in this part. S64&65 Forwards: Adam Warlock VHLM: Saskatoon Wild-Ottawa Lynx Drafted 4th overall In season 57, Warlock was a veteran by the time he helped Toronto win it's two back to back cups but before we get to all that we have his time in the VHLM to cover. Starting off his career by signing a contract with the Wild he joined near the end of the season just playing 21 games and posting 5 point split between 3 assists and 2 goals. Post season wise he put up 1 assists in 6 games. Following that he entered the draft and came out as a member of the Lynx. In his first season with the team he put up 31 goals, 46 assists for 77 points, a huge increase from from his previous season. In the playoffs 7 points in 10 games, 6 helpers and 1 in the back of the net. Next season would be the mother of all seasons, honestly I can not fathom these numbers, still with the Lynx in S58 he put up godly numbers. In 72 games, he netted 113 goals, yes 113..... 142 assists for 255 points, 255 POINTS!! He was scoring at a clip of 3.5 points per game!! that is insane!! To top it off 47 of his goals were on the power play, another 4 of them were short handed and 9 of them game winners. He had 894 shots, he almost had 900 shots that season! That averages out to 12.4 shots per game! I am speechless..... His post season points weren't as insane as he got 14 points in 10 games, 5 goals and 9 assists. Needless to say he was ready to move up to the big league, but still 255 points in one season? How is that even possible? The awards he got this season just felt like they were never gonna end, Founder's cup, Alexander Chershenko Trophy, Ryan Sullivan Trophy, Ethan Osborne Trophy, Mitch Higgins Trophy, and the Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy. VHL: Quebec City Meute-HC Davos Dynamo-Toronto Legion Alright I have to admit this baffled me, looking at the draft Warlock was drafted by the Toronto Legion but at some point was traded to Quebec, I don't if it was part way through the season or not but I must say it's odd because we already know he will return to Toronto. Anyway he was selected seventh overall by the Legion in S58, in his first season in the VHL he scored 5 goals, 31 assists for 36 points, and as a side note 208 shots blocked, only time he would be above 200 in that stat, no post season action. Traded to Davos I presume, his points would be less than his first season but most other numbers got better. 6 goals and 26 assists for 32 points, making the playoffs this time they went 3 games deep and Warlock got 1 assist. Next season saw Adam stay in the 30 point range, 34 assists, 5 goals for 39 points, post season Davos went all the way and won, taking 14 games to do so Warlock scored 3 goals and 10 assists. First of three Continental cups for Adam Warlock. In his final season with Davos his points finally saw a noticeable increase, 65 points split between 54 assists which was a career high and 11 goals. In the playoffs the magic was gone and in 7 games Warlock had 2 goals and 1 assist. Moving back to the team that originally drafted him in S63 Warlock would have his best season in goals and points, netting 23 and helping with 52 for 75 points, the first and only time he was above a point per game. In the playoffs he only played 2 games and had the same amount of points split equally. Next year and one after were the big ones however, 17 goals followed by 14, 40 assists followed by 30, for 57 and 44 points respectfully. In S64 Adam scored above a point per game with 13 points in 12 games, 5 goals and 8 assists. IN the following cup win he scored 3 goals and 8 assists in the same number of games. Two more Continental cups for Warlock. Finally I wanna look at career totals in the VHLM and VHL. VHLM: 165 GP, 146 goals, 191 assists, 337 points VHL: 504 GP, 81 goals, 267 assists, 348 points. Yes, in just 165 M games he scored more goals than he would in 504 VHL games, in fact he scored more goals in one season in the M than in his entire career in the VHL. And his points in the M are only 11 behind than what he put up in the VHL. His VHL career may have not been HOF worthy but that one season in the M means He'll never be forgotten. Oyorra Arroyo VHLM: Yukon Rush-Saskatoon wild Onto our next player hall of famer Oyorra Arroyo. Drafted 5th overall by Saskatoon Wild in S60 Arroyo would never actually play for the team, the one season in played in the M was with the Yukon Rush in S59. Playing all 72 games he manged 22 goals and 36 assists for a solid 58 points. In the playoffs he scored 11 points in 10 games, 6 goals and 5 assists and he got to skate away with founders cup with the rest of his team. This early win in his career was foreshadowing all the trophies and awards he would get in his career. VHL: Calgary Wranglers-Toronto Legion After his short stint in the M Arroyo moved into the big leagues the very next season. Arroyo was drafted second overall by Calgary and go on to split his career evenly between them and Toronto. His first two seasons were close in points 25 goals to 30, 30 assists to 26 for 55 and 57 points in season 60 and 61, it's amazing because his point totals were very similar to his VHLM numbers, it's like there was no change for him. In the S60 post season, 9 games and 1 netted and 1 helper. S62 14 games played 7 goals, 5 assist for 12 points. Calgary won the Victory cup in S61. Season 62 saw big improvement for the forward, 43 goals, 60 helpers for 103 points, in the post season he scored 13 points to be a point per game, 7 goals and 6 assists. Calgary won the Continental and Victory cup that year. In his forth and last season in Calgary his number fell back down but were still above a point per game, 38 goals, 45 assists for 83 points. In his last post season with the Wranglers he scored 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points in 12 games. Arroyo picked the perfect year to head to Toronto, his numbers jumped back up to above 100 points, 56 goals, 53 assists for 109 points, in his first post season with the team we know they went all the way, and Arroyo was a big reason for that. In his best post season performance he netted 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 12 games. Along with getting to lift the Continental cup for a second time he also won the Kevin Brooks Trophy. Heading into season 65 Arroyo would have a career year in all three categories, 62 goals, 63 assists for 125 points. Post season wasn't as crazy as last time but still good, 8 goals and 3 assists for 11 points in 12 games. This was that big year for him as he got the Continental cup for a third and last time, and we skated away with the Kevin Brooks trophy for a second time in a row, Scotty Campbell trophy, Mike Szatkowski Trophy, and the Brett Slobodzian Trophy. Finally in his last two seasons he put up 41 and 37 goals, 44 assists in S66 and 67 for 83 and 79 points. With no playoffs for the Legion in S66, the only time Arroyo wouldn't play in the post season they made up for it next season by winning the Victory cup. In his final post season appearance he 4 of each for 8 points 5 games. He went out playing hard for one more cup. His VHl totals are 576 games played, 333 goals scored, 361 assists, for 694 points, as mentioned before he is in the HOF. Evan R. Lawson VHLM: Las Vegas Aces Sadly the page for Lawson's profile is kinda broken, in that it doesn't list his VHLM stats even though Ace tells me he did play in the M, all I know is he was drafted by Las Vegas 9th overall in S58. I'm not going through every game to count his point totals. I will happily update this if it's ever fixed. VHL: Calgary Wrangler-Toronto Legion Drafted 3rd overall by Calgary in season 59, Lawson would be another player Toronto would snatch up for their back to back cup wins. Making his debut in season 60 the first two seasons progressed as followed, 17 and 18 goals, 15 and 29 assists for 32 and 47 points. In 23 post season games combined through two years, he scored 4 goals each time and followed it with 3 and 6 assists for 7 and 10 points in S60 and 61. Again Calgary won the Victory cup in S61. Season 62 saw a big jump in points, being a point per game player, 32 goals, 40 assists for 72 points. Post season saw him get 12 points in 13 games, 10 of those being assists. Both A victory cup and Continental cup for Lawson that year. S63 would see a career high in goals for Lawson, posting 33 for that and assists for 66 points. Playoffs would see him continue to be helpful, 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in 12 games. And with that his time was done in Calgary. Moving with his Calgary teammate Arroyo to Toronto, Lawson put up 33 assists for a second season in a row along with 26 goals for 59 points. Post season 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points in 12 games, of course what matters is that sweet sweet Continental cup. Season 65 would see Lawson tie his career high in points and assists, 40 assists and 72 points, the same exact goals, assists and points he had in season 62. In what would be his last post season appearance he had his best performance, 7 goals, 6 helpers for 13 points in yet again 12 games. A third and final Continental for him. His final season saw him score 24 goals, 38 assists for 62 points and that was goodbye for Lawson with no post season for the legion. Chace Trepanier VHLM: Ottawa Lynx-Saskatoon Wild Trepanier is one lucky player, let me tell you, signing with the Lynx since he missed the s62 draft, he played all 72 games and netted 34 goals along with 47 assists for 81 points. In the playoffs he scored 10 points in 9 games, 8 of them assists. After being drafted in S63 by Saskatoon at 5th overall, he would put up similar points totals, 44 goals, 41 assists for 85 points, small improvement for him. Playoffs 12 points in 11 games 7 of them helpers. What I haven't mentioned is that both of these playoff runs were Founder Cups winners. So in two VHLM seasons he's already got to lift the cup twice. With Trepanier seeming like a good luck charm he moved up to the VHL next season. VHL: Toronto Legion-Moscow Menace-New York Americans Drafted 19th overall by the Legion in S63, he would join the team for S64, his numbers in his first season were 11 goals, 29 assists for 40 points. In his one of only two post season appearances, he scored 4 goals, 5 assists for 9 points in 12 games for his first Continental cup. S65 saw him have his career season like so many others did that season, 19 goals, 32 assists for 51 points. Post season wise 11 points in 12 games, 3 goals and 8 assists. Second Continental cup and fourth cup in a row if you include his Founder cup wins. Trepanier probably just seemed like a goodluck charm at this point, your team just won with him, so Moscow acquired him in what I can only imagine was to see if he still had any of that good luck left with him. No dice though as he would have his worst season, 7 goals, 8 assists for 15 points, no playoffs. Maybe it was just a one off though right? maybe Moscow just wasn't the right team? So he went to the big apple to see if he could bring them a cup. 10 goals and 18 points later it was a big no, no playoffs and at this point the magic was probably just seen as gone from Trepanier. He would not find another team to play for and that was the end of the road for him.
