Hey guys, I had a pretty aimless and spontaneous VHL.com article last week and I enjoyed making it. As a result, I figured that I'd make it a series. This week, my plans are to just talk about my experience in VHL scouting.

To me, scouting is the most fun part of the VHL (other than the community interaction and social aspect of it). It's so continuously interesting to prepare yourself for a draft and decide how your list goes, and then check for patterns in your mistakes afterwards. After nearly two years in the VHL, there's a lot of monotony if that makes sense. Same type of point tasks every week, and it can get a bit repetitive. With scouting, I'm always trying to find holes in my process and improve from season to season.

I had a bit of a debate with myself on whether I'd like to be a GM one day, and ultimately I said no; That's why I stepped down in Calgary. The position of VHL AGM is a valuable stepping stone for aspiring GMs to one day run a team, and I wouldn't want to take that opportunity away from someone if I had no plans of moving up the ladder. The reason I wouldn't want to be a GM is that I'm a scout at heart. I'm decent enough with contracts, trades, and LR activity, but I just don't have the same jump in my step with those aspects of GMing.

Anyways, that's about it for this week. Next week I'll find something else to talk about and then I'll post a similar article to this one.
