Alessandro Nano looking to surpass his father Paolo's first full VHLM season totals

Recommended Posts

Alessandro Nano was selected second in the VHLM dispersal draft by the Miami Mauraders, which is alot higher than his father who was drafted in the third round, 18 overall.  Many in the VHL world think Alessando has more potential than his father and it will be interesting to see if the son can become a better player than his father.

Alessandro in his young career has played in a number of countries and cities.  He started playing hockey in Italy and then moved over to Moscow to develop his game once he started to take hockey seriously.  It's unusual for an Italian to play in Moscow but his father played many seasons there so he used his contacts to further his sons chances at a professional hockey career.  Alessando then left Moscow to go to Saskatoon as a free agent to play for the wild, the same team Paolo signed with when he joined the VHLM as a free agent .  That's where the similarities end as Paolo was drafted by Oslo who doesn't exist in the VHLM while Alessando waa drafted by Miami.  So far in his hockey career, Alessando has played in Italy, Russia , Canada and now the United States.  He's likely gonna play in the VHLM next season or two  so he's going to add another country to that list.

Alessandro has now started his first VHLM season as a Maurader and his first full season.  Alessandro expects to produce  a ton more this season after getting his feet wet last season with the Saskatoon wild.   Last season Alessando had just 1 goal and 2 assists in 18 games for the wild.  He also had 23 hits and 30 shot blocks while being a minus 4.  With those kind of numbers it won't be hard to top them even if you project those numbers across a full season.  That means he would score 4 goals and 8 assists in a full season.  So far this season Alessando has played one game and almost matched his total from last season as he had a goal and an assist.

Now that we looked at his totals last season and it's almost a certainty that he will surpass his full season projected numbers it's time to see what he needs to do to surpass his dad's first VHLM season totals.  In Paolo's first full VHLM season he scored 14 goals and 26 assists.  That is something that Alessando can match or even surpass as it's almost a point every other game which Alessando can accomplish.  As it's too early in the season it's hard to determine how likely that is.  In his first full season Paolo was a horrible -53 and that is something that Alessando has a great chance of bettering.  Alessando is also a more physical player so he should easily be able to top Paolo's 50 hits.  Paolo scored most of his goals on the powerplay with 12 and it will be interesting to see how Alessando does on that category but his goal this season was on the powerplay.  The last thing we can compare Alessando to his dad is in his VHL draft position.  Paolo was drafted 19th overall while Alessando is currently ranked 11th overall and the fourth highest ranked defenseman.
