There hasn’t been this much parody this year in terms of Riga type teams missing out on the playoffs, but this year has a few question marks for teams who were hoping for better, or expecting worse results. Looking at the standings, the first thing that catches my eye is New York with a .500 record of 23-23-2. They have one of the best goalies in the league in Sales, and a defense that should be strong enough for a playoff spot. Their forward depth is lacking a bit, but this looked like a 4th-5th place playoff team with some room to grow or bolster their lineup. So 6th probably isn’t ideal for them. DC is a team that has been overperforming imo. They hold onto a tightly contested 3rd place in the NA conference. Their goaler tandem is a squeak in playoff caliber. DC’s defence is better, but their forward group lacks depth, with just 2 forwards over 500 TPE.
