DollarAndADream 3,357
Mexico City/Mississauga The Mexico City Kings have been great in the playoffs so far, with a strong showing by Bastian Greiss in net and some great depth all around the lineup. In the Semi Finals, they find themselves faced off against the Mississauga Hounds, who are the favourites for the Founder's Cup with a 56-12-4 record. One might think a match-up between these two teams would be competitive, but the Hounds are firing on all cylinders. I'll start my recap after Game 1, where the Hounds lead the Kings 1-0 in the series. Mexico City Kings vs. Mississauga Hounds, Game 2 In this game, the 1st Period would be even, shots-wise, but Bastian Greiss just couldn't shut the door. At 8:55, Jakub Brozik would score a goal assisted by Baby Bob, and give the Hounds a 1-0 lead. There wouldn't be much action until later in the period, where Sigard Petrenko took a penalty that sent Mexico City to the PP. At 14:56, Deke Rike would score a PP goal, bringing this game to 1-1. It didn't take Mississauga long to answer back though, as they scored 2 quick goals at 16:17 and 18:41, scored by Russell Dixon and Baby Bob. That would give them a 3-1 lead heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, things started to fall apart for Mexico City, where they were outshot 20-5. Russell Dixon scored an early PP goal at 3:38, and not only that, but they then scored a short handed one too, where AJ Williams made it 5-1. Mexico City would answer back though, as they scored two quick ones at the end of the period, with Arthur Kimura and Deke Rike bringing the score to 5-3. In the 3rd Period, Nathaniel Minion scored at 7:29 to make it 6-4. At 8:44, Deke Rike gave the Kings some hope by scoring a shorty a minute after Minion's goal, but ultimately they could not battle back and the Mississauga Hounds won 6-4. With the Hounds outshooting Mexico 42-16, it's hard to win games that way. Mexico City could not capitalize on a back game by goaltender Luke Spinelli. 2-0 series lead for the Hounds. Mississauga Hounds vs. Mexico City Kings, Game 3 This game was a lot more respectable coming from the Kings. Deke Rike would score an early goal just a minute in to bring this game to 1-0. Although at 6:17, Jakub Brozik made it 1-1 and a tie game. Mississauga's Tony Adams would take a penalty and send Mexico City to the PP, where Rhys Trenton would get his 4th and give Mexico City the 2-1 lead heading to the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, it wouldn't be until 10:55 where the action started, and AJ Williams tied the game at 2-2. However, late in the period, Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen gave the Kings a 3-2 lead, and that score would hold all the way to the end of the game. The 3rd Period was one where Kings goaltender Bastian Greiss shut the door, with the Hounds outshooting Mexico 8-1 in the final frame. Bastian Greiss would save 32 of 34, for a 0.941% and be the story of the game. 2-1 series. Mississauga Hounds vs. Mexico City Kings, Game 4 This game would be a tough battle between the two teams. The Hounds outshot the Kings 18-4 in the 1st Period, but only two goals were scored. Tony Adams gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead, but Mexico City's Deke Rike would score with less than 5 minutes on the clock to even the game at 1-1. Talk about a showing for Bastian Greiss. In the 2nd Period, at 12:53, AJ Williams scored to make it a 2-1 game for the Hounds. Unfortunately for Mexico City, Dookie Headtop went to the box minutes after the goal, and the Hounds then capitalized with Sven Eightnine scoring on the PP, bringing this one to 3-1. Mexico City answered back though, with Deke Rike scoring late and giving Mexico City some hope with a 3-2 scoring heading into the final period. In the 3rd Period, AJ Williams scored just 47 seconds in on the PP, giving Mississauga the 4-2 lead, and a big goal to try and command this series. At 2:09, Mexico City's Flynn Remy scored with a quick answer to bring this one to 4-3. Not only that, but minutes later, Ben Aky tied the game at 4-4, and this one would head to OT. OT was a bit of a dominating period for the Mississauga Hounds. They would outshoot Mexico City 7-0, and Jakub Brozik would score to win it for them with a 5-4 score. Despite being outshot 43-22 overall, Mexico City battled hard in this one, with Bastian Greiss doing all he can, but Mississauga takes a 3-1 lead in the series.
