Kotkakoivu: Junior Review

When you hear the name Saku Kotkakoivu, it might sound familiar, and there is a reason for that. This player was created in a lab, much like Hulk Hogan 2. With the DNA of Montreal Canadien NHL legend Saku Koivu and ex-Canadien Jesperi Kotkaniemi, these two players were blended together to create one all-powerful being. Saku Kotkakoivu brings forward Koivu's age old wisdom and hockey senses with skill of NHL's past, and then Kotkaniemi's speed and skill from today's NHL. The scientists in the lab wanted him to be able to be rough and tough though, so he was created to be much larger than Koivu and Kotkaniemi before him. They cloned him into a 6'3", 215 pound, large centerman, capable to delivering the hits while also having immense skill. Adopted by Saku Koivu over in Finland and cloned to be a 14 year old, Saku Kotkakoivu was thrown straight into hockey to prove his worth.

Going into the high school scene at 14, Saku Kotkakoivu dominated his age group in Finland, and was quickly promoted to the age above him. This was obviously not enough either, because he blew through those kids also, and went on to win every award you could name over in high school hockey in Finland. His high school classmates actually held a petition for him to win goalie of the year, because he kept the puck on the other side of the rink for so long, that his goaltender did not have to do his job very often. Kotkakoivu had a knack for keeping the puck on a string and not letting it go when he's on the ice, not until the puck ended up in the opposition's net. One might say he was much like Wayne Gretzky at a young age in Canada, dominating minor hockey and scoring at least 5+ points per game.

Things came easy for him over the years through high school, and he quickly gained interest of hockey clubs all over. He was drafted to the Edmonton Oil Kings over in the WHL in the Canadian Hockey League juniors, but that was not the route he would ultimately take. Not only did the CHL and European leagues take interest, but the VHL's minor league saw something in him as well. He signed in S78 and played the latter half of the season for the MIssissauga Hounds in the VHLM, and in that off-season, was drafted to the Mexico City Kings. Interestingly enough, the Kings and Hounds are currently fighting it out in the playoff series.

It's going to be fun to watch how Saku Kotkakoivu's career goes once he's drafted to the VHL this next off-season.
