7 pro sports records close to being broken | RSN

Just before the season started the Calgary Wranglers and Tom Eagles announced that Tom will be signing a 2 year extension. This signing would make Tom a Wrangler up until his final season. With the way Tom has been playing this is a great signing for Calgary and will see one of their top players stay with the team for a couple more seasons.

We spoke to Tom about the signing and his future in Calgary.

"I was happy to re-sign in Calgary as I believe in this team and the teams plan for winning the cup. When I was drafted I promised the Wrangler organization a minimum of 5 years and I told them that I may want to test free agency after that 5 year period. Looking at how far I have come along in Calgary and how far the team has come along I decided to re-sign and not go to free agency yet. This team is built to win now and I want to be a part of the winning culture and winning journey that started when I was drafted. This has been home to me and at this moment I can't see myself playing for any other team" Tom said when asked about the resigning.

This was a good piece of business for Calgary as Tom took a home-town discount to sign at the minimum contract he could to stay with Calgary and this season the Wranglers are getting a good bang for the buck with Eagles. Tom currently has 13 points in 10 games which has been his best start to his career and the Wranglers are also off to an amazing 8-2 start. On top of his hot start, Tom, is closing in on 3rd place on the Wranglers record book. As of today Tom has 633 shots blocked while 3rd place overall in Calgary history has 635.

If Tom continues his strong defensive play he will clinch 3rd in the next few games. The other outstanding stat line from this is that Tom only has 298 games played for Calgary while the 3rd place Edwin the Encarnacion had 504 games played.

"My goal is to reach first spot in shots blocked in the Wranglers history book, that spot is currently held by Lars Intranquilo who had 943 Shots blocked in 486 games played. I believe I can break that record and so far I have been doing well in that category. I should hit 3rd spot with 300 games played. I am on the right track and I definitely want to end my career with taking that #1 spot on the Wranglers" Tom said when asked about the approaching milestones.

The league has also taken notice of Tom and believe that he will be the breakout and most improved player this season. By being the top defender on Calgary and playing max minutes, he is sure to beat all his personal bests over the past 4 seasons. He has trained and worked hard and we believe this season will be the big payoff for all that hard work.
