Will3 467
Hello, my friends. Welcome back to my weekly series analyzing team names in an imaginary VHL league. After boarding the train in South Korea, I have finally arrived to my northern destination in China. Let's stay here a while and see where hockey clubs would fit in best and what they should be named. With that being said, let us begin. Beijing is the cultural, educational, and political center of China. The last of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, it has been the political center of China for the past eight centuries. Today, is it the most populous capital city in the world and the billionaire capital of the world. It is also preparing to host the winter Olympics in four months. In the real world, Beijing is home to HC Kunlun Red Star, a KHL franchise that joined the league in 2016. My suggestion for a VHL team name is a bit obvious. I would call this hockey upstart the Beijing Dragons. The Chinese dragon is a central part of Chinese mythology. In mythology, the people themselves are decended from dragons and the emperors are the reincarnation of the dragons. Loong as they are known appear as the fifth creature in the Chinese Zodiac. Dragons represent power and authority, particularly over water and are considered beautiful wise and friendly. A special dragon of note is the Azure Dragon. He is an important religion character and in mythology. He is also a part of the Four Symbols of Chinese constellations and the ruler of a cardinal direction. He represents east and of spring. He is so important that the dragon has appeared as a national symbol multiple times, is referred in the art of Feng shui, and has been an influence in pop media. The colors of blue and green would best represent this sacred beast. Taiwan is a island nation of of China's coast. It is a highly urbanized, densely populated nation with a thriving, export driven economy. Given the political tension between Taiwan and China, putting a team here would be difficultin in real life. In a slight modification of a Morcar80 suggestion this hockey franchise would be called the Taiwan Tigers. Place names in Taiwan that reference tigers include Hujing Island (which translates to tiger well island) and Menghu Inlet(which translates to fierce tiger internet). Similarly to Korean culture, the Chinese also lift up tigers as guardian who destroy and defend against evil. They are third in the Chinese Zodiac. They inspire courage in people and has a strong connection to military matters. A special tiger of note is the White Tiger. It is apart of the the Four Symbols of Chinese constellations and a ruler of a cardinal direction, similarly to the Azure Dragon. It is the ruler of the west and of autumn. Using the white color as a primary team color would show proper respect to the king of all animals. Look at the time. It already time to go and I am only halfway done. Chinese mythology can lead to interesting team names. However it can be confusing for travelers like myself to understand. I hope I have explained the basics well enough to you. Next week, I will conclude our exploration of China. I guess I will wait here until we meet again. At least there is so much to see here. diacope 1,696
Can actually see Bejing being a team on here, very solid points. The Tigers sounds deadly but definitely in the shadow in this one Nice research and some of these Chinese teams have a lot of potential, specially with the mythology involved. Could add some pictures to the next article, bring the text more to life Will3 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/109748-analysis-of-vhlw-north-team-names-part-3-china/#findComment-878894 Share on other sites
