Greg_Di 1,028
Many people wonder what do players do when their not playing the game or practicing? What do they do when they finish the game and the lights go out at the arena? Today we follow Tom Eagles and see exactly what he does after the game. Today after a 3-2 shootout win against Davos, Tom, skated off the ice and went straight to the locker room. It was the first win for the Wranglers after going on a brutal 0-5 streak. Tom sat down in his stall and waited for the coach to walk into the room. The coach came in, congratulated the team for breaking the losing streak and walked off. Tom stood up and told the Wranglers that from this point on we can't take anymore bad losses. We are built for the playoffs and we need to act like we are a playoff team. The last 5 games before this were embarrassing. A few players nodded their heads, some didn't pay attention and others were already leaving the room. Tom didn't know if his message got across but he has been trying to be a leader for this team and lead by example. Time is running out for the Wrangler core and they need to start focusing on the big picture....that picture is winning the cup at the end of the season. After a quick shower and change, Tom, leaves the arena and heads to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in downtown Calgary. He hears this is a great spot for steak but has never gone before. It's a meal he believes he deserves after pulling off that win. The staff quickly recognized the Wrangler player and ushered him into the VIP table where he orders a medium-rare steak and a nice glass of GAMBLER'S OLD FASHIONED. The meal was wonderful and it gave Tom a time to reflect on the season and the task ahead. The Wranglers, since he has joined, have always struggled in the first round and this is the season to change that. He thought of all the ways he can do this and he thought ahead to what lies ahead. There is still a tough regular season schedule to finish off followed by the quick and brutal schedule of the VHL playoffs. He hopes the team can pull together and make some magic happen. After the meal he heads home where he spends an hour on his in home arena working on his skating and shot. While many players would not think about skating or playing after a game, Tom is different. He is always crafting his game and working on what he needs to improve to get better. With only a limited amount of years left in the VHL, he wants to be at peak condition. With his stint in the VHL he has not yet won any personal awards in the VHL and while he always preaches team first....you can tell he wants to win something. Even though this has been his best season in his career so far, it is still not up to par with the best in the league. This is why Tom is always skating, always practicing any moment he gets. He wants to be the best in the VHL but at the same time he knows time is running out. This is the moment for him and he has to dig deep to play his best. With only a few games left, we have yet to see what Tom can do for the Wranglers and if it will be enough to bring home the cup. Lemorse7 1,023
I’m really hungry for a steak looking at the photo. I love the format and the idea, to describe what Tom do after a games is refreshing and interesting to read. Tom seems like a great leaders to the teams a like the psychological aspect of you’re players that you describe in this article. It’s a well thought article and well put together. 9/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/110273-tom-eagles-after-the-game/#findComment-881071 Share on other sites
