Russian defenseman Siyan Yasilievich was born in Toksovo, Russia. Growing up, Siyan was indulged into the hockey world by his father, Ivor. His father would tell him about the Golden Era of Russian Hockey, in the 1960s-1980s, where they won the Gold medal many times. After hearing this, Siyan decided for his 7th birthday, he would ask for skates from his family. To put this into perspective, his family was not the most wealthy, in which many months his family would just get by with the money they had, so he knew that for his birthday, it would be very unlikely that he would get ice skates. However, his mother and father were able to save up enough money for his birthday, and they ended up getting him ice skates. Siyan was thrilled that he was able to receive such a gift from his family, that he decided to use them right away. He ran outside, in which the family had a pond in their backyard in a huge open area that would end up freezing over every year with the cold winters in Russia. In the coming years, Siyan would spend a lot of his free time skating after school. A couple years later, when he was heading into high school, he decided to purchase hockey equipment with his earnings that he got working a part time job in Russia. After gaining his courage, his equipment, and approval from his family, he decided to tryout for the local high school team. The coach was extremely surprised with the fact that Siyan was an exceptional skater, being able to blow by some of the best players the high school had to offer. After making the team, he ended up playing in high school where he became an instant phenom, putting up impressive numbers as a young teenager. While he was finishing his usual skating routine at practice and heading off the ice, he was approached by a MHL scout, offering him to play in the Russia Junior League at 16 years old. He ended up accepting with approval from his family, and his father Ivor who was extremely happy for his son, Siyan. Siyan ended up struggling at first in the MHL, putting up only 1 point in 10 games, but after some time, he started destroying the MHL, putting up almost a PPG at the end of the season. Siyan heading into the offseason had a decision to make, either stay another season in the MHL and continue his dominance, or try to test the free agent market, which he decided to do. Siyan was then approached by the Philadelphia Reapers, where he now has just announced he will be officially joining their team for the remainder of the season and attempting to further his career!
