WASHINGTON D.C. - When he’s not laying out a heavy hit in Washington State, you can sometimes find him down in Washington D.C. during the offseason watching Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Although it probably shouldn’t be, it might be surprising to learn that Sigard Petrenko is still star truck despite his years playing professional hockey. And as you probably figured by now, Sigard Petrenko is an avid Alexander Ovechkin fan. So imagine his surprise when the NHL star gave him a signed jersey.

“I loved watching the Capitals growing up. Call me out on recency bias if you would like but he is proving to be one of the best goal scorers in history. It was a great honour to have the Great 8 [Alexander Ovechkin] sign a jersey and give it to me. Heck, I hope we can see him play over here in the V[HL] one day. Preferably with the Seattle Bears. But hey, can’t be a chooser, or whatever the saying is.”

Sigard has always put goal scoring as a priority in his hockey career. However, as the scoring slump to start of his VHL career has been haunting him, he hopes he can at least be as tough as his hockey hero if not as masterful at goals.
