SEATTLE - Sigard Petrenko is a young winger still trying to find his way in the Victory Hockey League. Drafted in the first round, it is no surprise that there are expectations; expectations he is anxious to live up to. However, he is used to coming up short in terms of what the fans anticipate. For those who are unaware, Sigard Petrenko was a Red Wings prospect that ended up playing mostly in the AHL. The Red Wings ended up never signing him to an NHL contract and he was a free agent. So, he tried his hand in the Victory Hockey League Minors. Sigard proved to be a formidable shooter and knew how to put the puck in the net. Then in his second season in the Minors, he proved himself to be a formidable hitter. While you could argue the latter still holds up today, it is no secret that his offensive production has taken a hit.

“I mean, it does get to you. Pointless stretches, goal droughts; it can mess with your mind. It’s up to me though whether or not I can learn to get over those. I’m glad that the organization has been quite patient with me but this season is crucial. I need to prove my mettle here and show the fans that they did not waste their first rounder on me.”
